Default Fuel Mileage secret

I found the fuel mileage secret well not really a secret, just normal maintenance.

I bought my hemi ram the first week of January and I have been consistently getting 12.5mpg. Friday the weather was nice for the first time since I got it so I changes the plugs (champion copper cores), cleaned the throttle body and changed the oil (Mobil 1 Syn). Been driving around all weekend and now I am seeing mileages on the overhead that I have not seen before, 16.7mpg. Now that's what I'm talkin about.

Anyway, just thought I would share.

Nice!!!! That should save you a ton of cash with those numbers. I would say majority of the problem would have been the plugs and not the TB or synthetic but every little bit helps the common denominator. Do an E fan on that thing and your mileage will go a little higher. Cheers

The truck just hit 70K miles and I think it still had the original plugs and the TB was pretty nasty. I don't know which was the bigger mpg robber. As for the synthetic oil, I have been runny mobil 1 in all of my vehicle since 1999.

E fan is also on the to do list. I have everything I need except the time.

I've got the 4.7 and changed the plugs a few months ago. I was getting 13 mpg on the highway, that's right, the highway. After I changed the plugs I'm seeing almost 19.6 mpg and I reset it tonight taking my kids back to their mother. Big difference. Just shows you how much a tune up helps.

Hmm, I think I'm going to try changing the plugs. When my father owned the truck he was getting 12.7 average, and that was driving like my grandmother drives.

In addition to tune ups, check those tires. Keep the psi's near the max as stated on the sidewall, that really does a lot for mpg's.
