Headers for towing issue
Right, what i meant was instead of "wasting" $400-$700 I would get a programmer first then go from there. So thats around $450 for an alarm, $320 for a programmer, and $75 for shackles... about $850, I should then have some left over from the insurance. So long as they arent dicks lol
Haha yes I know. Well I tried to explain to my parents that an alarm was mandatory the first time but they said "thats what insurance is for". Now they are pissed because its the second claim on the same truck. So yes tomorrow I am calling about an alarm, my radio is still in the truck but they took the face plate so im hoping insurance will help out and same with ipod. But if insurance wants to put the ipod on home owners then I will just pay out of pocket later on and use my blackberry for now. Has an 8 gb sd card and satelite radio so I can deal with it for now.
And no, I dont live in the ghetto. I actually live in a really nice area semi closeish to the ghetto but the type of area that if anyone is there who normally isnt, they are being watched. My truck just seems to attract ******** lol. I mean the advise i got from my neighbor was ot more speakers in, pound all over town, then sit in the truck with a shotgun and hit the first person that comes up lol. Just goes to show you, we all are pro second amendment and castle doctrine. All it takes is for one of these jerks to take a couple slugs and the theiving would stop for a short while.
'Froggy hit the nail on the head way back in the beginning of this thread. LT's produce more HP AND MORE TORQUE than ANY shortys or mid tubes, but this torque is produced a bit higher in the rpm band. The more you free up the intake/exhaust system the less restrictive backpressure is produced. Backpressure is actually inefficiency in the system, making the engine work harder to take in air/fuel and expunge gasses. It's this that gives you a little more grunt at extremely low rpms.
There are ways to make good torque down low while still maximizing efficiency, but they are a hell of a lot more expensive than a little backpressure.
My plan was originally to install a CAI, better muffler, better Y-pipe and LT headers and then go to a cam with a custom grind for crazy low end torque. I've got it all done but the cam and got a little side tracked with family health issues but I'll get there eventually.
IMO if you are only really doing CAI and a tuner, then shortys or maybe a compromise between the two and mids would be the way to go. If you plan on some heavy duty mods like Cam, heads, etc., then I think anything less than LTs is a going to hurt you in the end...

Like hammer said there are different ways to make up for lowend tq. I have the pacesetter lt's on mine w/ 3" piping all the way out the back and love the setup BUT I also have a higher stall tq converter and 4.56's in the rear so I am 99% possitive that I didn't lose any lowend grunt.
If you are only doing basic mods, after the big 3 are taken care of, the next one IMO would not be headers, it be gears or a converter depending on what you use your truck for. If you tow a lot Gears is the way to go far before anything else, if street performance is what you are after then its a tie between gears and a new TC.
The top 4 mods I have done so far that have made the biggest difference in the way my truck performs (besides the tuner) in order are:
#1 - Tq Converter
#2 - Gears
#3 - Headers
#4 - Ported Throttle Body
Everything else so far has been a minor gain in compairison.
Those 4 are for the more serious modders though.
