Ok, I've drawn up a sketch of the wiring but I don't know how to post it up. I do have one fan, but the switch will control which relay will be receive power.

Ok, got everything hooked up and running good. The switch basically selects which relay I want to control the fan. Super easy to do, just a lot of wires everywhere. I'm going to have to buy some plastic tubing. Also on another positive note fixed the Tow/Haul mode switch. It wasn't so much the switch that was broken but that it was unplugged under the dash. Plugged it in and all is well. Doing my first towing trip this weekend in the mountains, so I'll let everyone know how it goes. Thanks for everyone's help.

Well Rattlers, have you tried testing the fan motor itself to make sure it works? Also, what controller are you using for it?

So I got the Relay, and the fuse. I'm assuming that I replace the existing relay with the larger one after I've trimmed the tabs to fit the slots, and if I want both low/high, keep the existing fuse on the low end, and add the 60A fuse in line with the high speed wire? (Taurus fan) If that's not right, how so?

I asked this before but I think it got overlooked, but where are you guys hooking your ignition switched hot lead to? I've tried two different fuses in the fuse box that say ignition hot only. But my fan STILL runs after the truck is shut off.

You must have a controller for the fan to work. The only other way is to directly wire the fan to a power source and switch but then if you forget to turn the switch on you could overheat. Or forget to turn it off and you come back to find a dead battery. So a controller is needed to control the fan.

The fuse is to protect the fan controller but not the fan directly. So cut out the old fuse holder on the controller and put in its place the new fuse holder. This will protect the controller whether you are using low or high speed.

If your controller is not shutting off with the key off then one of three things are happening.

1) You are not using a meter to check for switched power versus constant and guessing on what fuse to use or

2) You have the controller wired incorrectly or

3) You have a bad controller that will not shut off

Thanks Dodgequad...that link to the fuse worked like a charm!! No more run without the key on.

The saga continues though.

I trimmed the relay to match the one that came on the controller...
RELAY.jpg?t=1283393954

I installed the 60A fuse in line with second fan wire mimicking the low wire setup as shown below.
**no, this is not how the wires will look in the end. I have them all spread out to limit confusion. **

wiring1.jpg?t=1283396093

When I inserted the new relay, the high speed fan instantly turned on...even with the ignition lead unplugged. Replaced the original relay and it acted normal.

*** I used a die grinder/cut off wheel to trim the tabs on the relay, and it got kind of warm (not to be taken as it got too hot...) Could heat have caused the internal switches of the relay to bridge temporarily?

I had to call it quits for the night, so I disconnected the spade connector that attaches the high speed circuit to the fan harness, and put the smaller relay back in.

I hate being an electrical idiot....I know nothing about troubleshooting relays and stuff.
