Default 03 with a 5.7, which handheld tuner?

Tried to sift through the thousands of posts in the Superchips and Diablo reviews, but thought I'd try and save a few hours and just ask it here.

As the title said, which handheld is going to give me the best bang for the buck? Which models can I find used for a decent price?

I do a tow small travel trailer around six times a year or so, and I plan to run 35's soon if that makes any difference. I understand the 03's have a stand alone ecu for the tranny anyway, so any insight there would be appreciated.

Thanks all in advance!

i have an 03 and went with the SC 3865... it works great for the "little" we can do to our trucks cause of the stupid POS pcm's!

I have read that a number of times reading through the reviews, what are we missing out on exactly?

you don't get any transmission support, just engine tunes.

for your 03, do the torque management wire cut and that's your transmission tune.

nh5, I hadn't seen that one yet.. Guess I've got another search to do.. LOL.

So, as far as tuners go, I still don't know which one I should look for.

What do you plan to do with your truck?

You do not have trans support, so if you are not planning a cam or anything like that, get a SC 3815, that will save you some money over a 3865.

If you plan on doing a cam swap later, get a Diablo Sport so you can get a custom tune.

AHA, finally a solid answer. 3815's have the same tune packages as the 3865, just minus the trans, or what?

I disagree entirely guys. coming from a SC 3815, I can say the DSP is much better for the 03 in any situation.

There is literally nothing the SC can do that the DSP cant for the 03. The DSP also allows you to tweak the tunes if you'd like, or supports custom tuning if you choose to do that down the road. For guys with the 03, DSP is the only logical choice...it just simply does more stuff.

No thanks. I like my transmission so I'll stick with SC.
