could a bad camshaft sensor cause this? The sensor is from the old engines timing cover?? Shouldn't it throw a code if it's bad?

If its the cam sensor it would throw a code, almost everything will throw a code or at least should.

Im stumped man, the last thing I think I would check would be the plugs and wires and just make sure that everything is correct and nothing was crossed anywhere.

Just to double check have you used the key trick to pull any codes?

cycle the key on/off/on/off/on (do it once more if it doesn't pop up, I always forget how many times you gotta cycle it, pretty sure its 3 times though) and it should pop up a code oe ----- where the OD is.

I have seen bad cam and bad crank sensors throw the timing way off and either not start or backfire and carry on.

Not every model will give you the P'codes by cycling the key. Also on the hemi's if the valve timing or just one bad valve, will cause the engine to backfire and misfire. I have seen the plastic intake manifolds split in half.

Installed the cam sensor... It didn't help anything, still having the same problems. While it was running I manually opened the throttle body a little and it ran great, not sure how to check to make sure that is funtioning properly??
