Default Never so much trouble spending so much money!

I just got back from the dealership to see why my truck that I was told on Monday had already "been shipped" had not arrived (I'm told they are made just two states away).

We may or may not be getting a truck! Gaaawwwwdddd, but I hate car dealerships! Now the fun begins... read on...

"Uh, where exactly has our truck been shipped, since it hadn't arrived?" I enquired. Weeelllllll, based on further research it was built and "ready to ship" when it was discovered it was the "wrong color." Yeah, sure. Likely story. Anyway, there is a "restriction" on our color (which is also an extra cost option--so you'd think they'd want to crank them out) and this is the last month of '05 production, yada, yada, yada.

"Would you want the highly optioned one on the lot?" were the next words out of the salesperson's mouth. HELL, NO! If I'd wanted that grotesque, over-optioned, over-priced P.O.S. I'd bought it two months ago, since it was there then--and had been for who knows how long! Obviously, nobody else wants it, either!!!!

What IS wrong with these people? AND, NO! I DO NOT WANT AN '06, PERIOD--I hate the new Dakota-like grille and why pay more for half the warranty, to boot?

So, the bottom-line is that MAYBE it will still be built; MAYBE they'll find out next week. Maybe they'll bother informing me. Maybe I'll buy a Freak'n Ford. Maybe I'll drive the race car to B'ville before I deal with these A.Hs any farther.

Interestingly, I wonder if I'd ever learned anything if I'd not gone to the dealership Monday? The salesperson who order the truck had quit a month ago and nobody bothered to tell me or check on his orders or their status. I've never had so much trouble spending so much money in my life!

Fortunately, I'd driven my '58 NYer convertible to the dealership, so I had to address all the "oohs and aahs" over it and answer myriad questions, so I didn't have the opportunity to get really MAD until I'd left.

Maybe the next chapter next week, or maybe not! I'm going out to work on my wife's race car and blow it off.

Have a nice day!

Bro, sorry to hear about that. There is no excuse for the service, or lack there of, that you are recieving. I would go to another dealership or look one up on the web. Unfortunately there are POS dealers out there that don't worry about someone unless they have checkbook in hand and working on a deal for one of thier cars. I would definitely raise hell with DC and get a customer service rep to locate a vehicle for you with that specs. There has got to be one somewhere.

Thanks for comments and support. I've ordered a goodly number of vehicles over the years and though I've had lots of Chrysler products (and worked for an incredible dealer as a kid), this is my first special order with them (and likely the last). So much for "Five Star" dealerships; what they don't tell us is that the rating is on a Hundred Star scale!!!

Here is exactly what I ordered... each thing for a particular purpose. This is NOT your typical dealership "spec" vehicle. Of course, that's why I ordered it in the first place.

Mineral metalic 1500 ST, regular cab, hemi with automatic, dark gray (forgot the name) vinyl seats and the rubber floor, towing package, cruise, and 3.92 limited-slip. No other options, no optional tires, wheels, sound system, nor power anything--nada, zilch. Obviously, a pretty oddball truck but one that perfectly fits my needs.

I'm buying the truck (I still have some hope--at least until I talk to them again next week) to tow my wife's race car to the Bonneville Salt Flats once a year, a round trip of about 3500 miles. If you've ever been on the Salt Flats you'll know exactly why the vinyl and rubber interior is necessary. However, since the truck will serve most of its life as my alternate daily driver and I am essentially a hiperformance sports car nut, I wanted the lightest weight truck possible, so it will get out of its own tracks (my regular daily driver is a Brand X sports car, and I race on the Flats at significant speed--hence, the desire for the boy-racer truck--which would probably end up with a Kenne Bell on it).

If the style wasn't changing for the '06s, it wouldn't be that big an issue, since I don't have to have the truck anytime soon, other than to pickup a car trailer I've been dealing on and haul my wife's car to our racing compadre in IL this fall.

If anyone sees a truck like the one I've described I'd be surprised. But, who knows, I suppose it's possible. The only one they said they'd found close to what I wanted the day I ordered was in IL and it might as well have been pink, as far as I care--I think it was red. I've got two red cars and sold a red truck a couple years ago. NO more red! Please!

I'll let you know next week what happens. It's a great forum, very helpful and responsive to some questions I've had (I have someone here who I'm donating the RAM emblems to if one eventually shows up). Hope I have a reason to stick around.

Thanks, again.

Update of sorts... I live in a small town and as we were going to a booth in a local Waffle House this morning, who should be at the next table but my "new" salesperson. I asked about "my" truck and he assured me that the dealer had called the Dodge rep (whatever that means) to try and get the truck built. However, the deadline for '05 orders is this coming Saturday, the 11th. The last words of the saleman were, "I'm sure we'll get you a truck."

Humm... sounds positive, but the couple times I checked on the order in the first month were too. Perhaps by the end of this coming week or at the latest the first of following, we should know the final story.

And as was suggested, had I realized what was going on sooner I'd have simply gone somewhere else. In any event, the dealer--hisownself--and I are going to have a talk when this situation concludes, one way or the other.

Dayamn, I'd still like to have the truck! Such is life. On reflection, I'd say if this is the biggest issue one faces, one's pretty fortunate.

Later, Dudes and Dudettes

Avanti,
I had a few set backs when I ordered my truck too. The getrag was just being introduced and they brought all the shipped or near shipped ones back for additional oil fills due to some rear bearing failure problems. I finally e-mailed Daimler-Chrysler directly for a response to the issue, and while they didn't speak to the tranny issues, they responded almost immediately, noting my dissatifaction with the delayed delivery time. Funny how my truck showed up just a couple of days later?? Yes, I purchased the 70-100k additional warranty for it. The truck is worth the wait!!!! This is no gutless wonder, and with just over 2k miles on mine, I'm getting 15.6+ avg mpg highway on it already. I guess it pays to be the biggest, loudest squeak in the pack sometimes. Start flaming that dealer your working through, its your money they're after, and for what I know you are paying for this ride, he should be bending over backwards to get you results!!!! I know mine did!!
Sometimes you just got to treat em like attornys, can't live with em and you would like to live without em.

Gone-fishin:

Who exactly did you e-mail? Adress? I' love to let DC know how this is playing out.

If it weren't for the model changes and limited time frame, I'd been long gone from these schumcks.

Thanks in advance.
