Default Issue with G2 4:56 gears.

Is anyone running G2 4:56 gears in a 3rd gen 2wd? the shop i have it at called me today to tell me that they gear set was wrong. that there is no clearance to reinstall a pin, says the ring is too thick.(i have no idea what he is talking about)After many phone calls to 4wheel parts and g2, they state they sent the correct ones. any infomation would be greatly appreciated. If i need to return them. is there a better set you recommend?

Thanks,

Most of the time you have to notch the pin or get one that is notched like this http://completeoffroad.com/i-362013-...cross-pin.html

Yes, we put G2 gears in the rear of Pyro's 4x2 (former site mod here). No problem, you have to notch the pin for ANY brand. If this shop don't know that, YOU PICKED THE WRONG SHOP. I doubt they have a snowball's chance in hell of setting them correctly if they don't even know that.

BTW, I've got G2s in my 4x4, five years now, no problems whatsoever to date...

Do al years of Dodge3rd Gen trucks need this "notched pin"?
I have an 03 and am going to put 4:56's in hopefully soon.
I thought only the later 06 and upwards needed the pin indexing?

I don't think this is a issue with the Detroit True Trac differential as we use a puck and plug, not a pin. I didn't install 4:56 and it wasn't an issue. This what I am trying to describe.

Hope this helps...

Good post RedTruck-VA.
I now remember seeing that circular "puck" thing on my DTT.
A gear guy installed my DTT, so I didn't ralise that we don't have a pin. I do remember however, all the old bits he gave back to me did include the old pin from my stock LSD.
That's one less thing for me to be concerned about.
Nice info and thanks.

As said before, any 456 gear in the 9.25 rear has to have the pin notched because of the thickness of the gear. I had to have it done on mine with my Auburn LSD and Motive 456s. My guy was a rear end guy and he didnt know to notch it either.

So G2 replied ans stated they would rather grind down the teeth then grind down the pin. They said it was safer that way because the other way would weaken the pin. To me that knows nothing about a lot of things sounds like that would be backwards??? either way, the pin is being modified as we speak so i should have my truck back soon.
