Default thermostat placement on 2002 ram 1500

Its me again, I think I might have put the thermostat in wrong. Does anyone know which way the spring should go in. I thought I put it in right but now I am second guessing myself. Sshould the spring end go toward the block or toward the hose. Im gonna rename myself to DUMMY if I put it in wrong. Thanks. ps its a 2002 ram 4.7 motor 2 wheel drive

Thanks for the replies guys. The two of you guys have Hemis and I dont know anything about them but my water pump and thermostat are on the bottom of the engine and the top hose is the inlet to the radiator and gets real hot and the bottom hose is to the thermostat and water pump. If I put the thermostat spring to the block wont that prevent the stat from opening and letting the fluid circulate? Im sorry for second guessing you guys but need to figure this out quickly . What would happen if the stat was in the wrong way, would I overheat immediatly. Thanks again

You would overheat fairly quickly unless it is really cold outside, in which case it would take a little longer.

I agree, inside the block. Here is a link that helps confirm.
