I think messing around in a street vehicle is much different than professional racing... The Vortek VHO is real fast, its faster than the stock quad cab HEMI for sure... now it isn’t quite apples to apples but I read how the 2WD HEMIS are saying they can beat the SS 4x4 Chevy.... I’m just suggesting they race a truck a bit closer in there own class... a 2WD 1500 Dodge vs. 2WD 1500 Chevy Vortech VHO.... The out come would be quite different... let the 4x4 HEMI guys chase down the CHEVY SS... Which would be a much closer race than a 2WD HEMI racing the 4x4 CHEVY SS...? I know it’s more fun to do the later but it’s not an APPLE to APPLE comparison. Again I’m not a CHEVY fan... I just like to do a more APPLE to APPLE comparison.....

From what I've read..."lilhemi" is full of more doo doo than a cow farm...seriously go read his posts...he has no idea what he's talking about on any issue and he rambles on about pointless "facts"

Wow, this is an old thread, wish I would have seen it sooner!
I have a 4x4 QC Hemi. Never messed with an SS - that'd be stupid. Have taken on and beaten 5.3 2wd and Z71's. Its not a run away, but a Hemi will walk the line with them. Now, when you get into 6.0 HO, thats when things change. The first thing is, the HO isn't offered in ALL Silverados - like the Hemi is in the Rams. If you want a HO 6.0, or the Vortec Max package as they call it, you have to jump up to the LT trim. So, you end up with leather seats, Onstar, and all the other bells and whistles. The MSRP on something like that is going to be in the high 30's or low 40's. But, you can go to any Dodge dealer, pick up a base QC Hemi for something in the high 20's. I know some of the closet Chevy fans here will say they've seen the Vortec Max package for $31,999 at some dealer - but thats deceiving. GM is going bankrupt - its a clearance sale on their inventory, so they will heavily discount anything. Thats what happens when you lose over 4 billion dollars in a year.
My problem with Chevy is this, they make some bad *** motors, but they come in extravagently priced vehicles. When they offer a HO 6.0 in a work truck Silverado, or LS trim, then I'll stand up and take notice. I've gone stoplight to stoplight with 1500 HD's, with the 6.0 (not the HO, I think its rated at 320 or 330 hp). They are quick off the line, but the Hemi will catch them in 3rd and 4th gear. Having a 5 speed (like we do) makes a big difference compared to the 4 speed offered by GM. My opinion is that the HO Vortec - because it is exclusive to certain trims (SS and LT) - are not practical. Trust me, I hate Titans more than anyone, but they offer their motor across the board. Dodge does the same thing (I don't count Ford 5.4's because they are too slow, same thing for the Toyota IForce V8). But Chevy, they sit back and think they can charge $45,000 for truck because it has 345 hp and has a bowtie on the front. Why not spend an extra $6,000 on an SRT10 and wipe his *** all over the pavement? Hmmmm, maybe thats why GM is going BANKRUPT

I've raced a number of Fords and bowties. I have an 05,QC,4X4,Laramie,3:92 posi with 20"s. I have had no trouble beating them from a roll or dead stop. Nothing glamorous and I did have a little trouble with the Chevy SS but finally pulled on away on the top end. My truck seems a little soft on the bottom end after I put the Mopar CAI on. Also beware of the Ford Lightning...hurt my feelings really bad.

5.3 G.M. 1/2 ton 2wd trucks are as fast or faster than the dodge hemi. The problem is G.M. build quality. Everyone I know at work with a G.M. truck has a problem with a gas gauge that doesn't work or some kind of electrical or trim problem.
I have had 3 G.M. vehicles, a 93 Buick Regal, a 95Camaro Z28, and my son has a 99 Old's Alero and I've had to change the intake gaskets on all three at about 55K miles. My best friends wife's 96 Tahoe needed new intake gaskets at 70k, has had a new ac and two new alternators. All before 100K, and now at 100K it has new fuel injectors/regulator, new plugs and wires new (4) o2 sensors, new IAC, new TPS and 2 new catalitic converters, and it stiil has a check engine light and runs like ****. He's taking it a G.M. mechanic this week end.
That truck has been serviced and babied it's whole life. G.M. buils the fastest pieces of $h!t on the road!

Again I have a good freind who purchased his Vortech VHO (2x4 6.0 silverado) for under 30,000 bucks... its real fast. He has debadged it so it now lookes like every other silverado except for the factory 20's that are a dead givaway to the Vortech VHO.
So if you role up to a light next to a silverado and he has FACTORY apearing 20's... you best tuck away your pride and and chose your races carefully... because if he has even a coulple of mods he could easily be running 13's, and low 12's with the normal exhaust, headers, PCM update, intake and even heads/cams... There is nothing aftermarket you cant get for a CHEVY... Im no fan... I think the Siveradoo is BUTT ugly... bu tman I wish I was that fast!
ALSO a regular cab HEMI is smaller than the Silverado... And MOST regular cab 5.7L are running high 14's-low 15's.... and thats about the same as the stock Vortech VHO with severe traction issues... It takes a whole lot less money for him to get 13's than it does for a HEMI to get 13's...

Performance wise the 5.3L is more in competition with the 4.7L... and the chevy 6.0 is in competition with the 5.7L... Either way you look at it ... dodge is making more/same HP with less CI...

If you'll look at the rear gear ratios the Dodge has a 3.92 while the chevy runs a 3.23. I'd be willing to bet if the chevy had the optional 3.73 with that 3.06 first it would be right next to the ram. I still think chevy's are junk as far as build quality, but that small block makes great power on 87 octane.
