If you find one that is the exact same then i dont see it being an issue. Going from the one thats basic to the one with all the extra buttons might be a project.
What are all the different options on the style you have? Also does that thing have homelink?
Just as an example:
and yes it has homelink, all the buttons in the middle with the dots are for homelink.

Like Weed said, Electronic Vehicle Information Center, the lesser one that is more common is an OTIS (Overhead Travel Information System). If you already have an OTIS, then the correct EVIC is plug and play, the EVIC just allows you to do more stuff from/with the BCM, including programming additional key fob remotes (except for chipped keys).
I'm not 100% sure about the Ram overhead, but I don't think it will be a problem.
I posted a DIY on a Jeep based forum on how to use a wireless relay for off-road lights and program the overhead HomeLink buttons to turn the lights on/off. Since most people only use 1 button for the garage door, they have 2 unused.
Since that DIY, I know of a couple of guys who upgraded the standard overhead w/o Homelink to the one with (that also adds TPMS) and it worked fine (the TPMS also works IF you go get the valves put on) Direct swap, plug 'n play...
