good morning!

my dad had recently purchase an 06 ram w/ a 4.7 and it shifts goofy to me. i had an 05 4.7 and now an 06 hemi and those would shift 1,2,3,4 and then converter lockup. this one shifts 1,2,3, lockup, unlock, 4, then it locks up again. is it supposed to do this?? ive heard the 06 4.7 do some different stuff with the lock up in tow/haul and o/d off mode than my 05 did, but i dont know if this is right? ive never heard of any reflashes on the rfe trans. any help would be appreciated.

Many cars/trucks lock-up early on. Lock-up gives 100% Power transfer where-as when it's slipping your losing power. That means your losing MPG's as well.

Tow/haul locks out 5th and engages longer into the gear(higher rpms before shift)
O/D off locks out 4th and 5th gear

 

Should go 1-2-3-4-5. It will partially lock at part throttle in 3rd and be locked in 4th and 5th.

Im constantly counting mine as it shifts......a bad habit but i pay attn to everything my truck does

 

To tell the truth all dodge transmissions can go into lock up in any of the forward gears, and yes even in 1st gear. jet2663 is the check engine light on or has the transmission gone into limp in?

 

jet, my 07 seems to do the same thing. I asked the dealer about it shortly after I bought the truck because engine rpms went up noticeably between 4th and 5th.

 

My 06 4.7 does the same thing upshifting between 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear. The TCC pattern and shift points both need work in the PCM, but nobody lets us tune that yet.
