Stupid PCV valve
So, I've never been able to get my PCV valve off my 5.9
I've always heard and read that they just pull out, real easy - breezy job. I could spin it around easily but even trying to force it out with a big screwdriver as a lever it would not budge, and I'd be afraid that it would break apart and fall into the intake (and then who knows what).
Since I had her in the shop the other day I had them replace it for me (don't start bashing me yet...) along with a road test, found out it's just the front hubs going bad (just dropped $240 at rockauto for 2 timkens) and they leak tested my AC system (compressor is shot, f*ck!). Total bill for that was less than $20 (I'll wait on the AC stuff).
Now, I've once gone waaaay overdue for sparkplugs before, and honestly, every time I plug fresh coppers in there I do not feel a difference at all on my next drive. But when I left the shop with that new PCV valve . . . h o l y s h e t did that make one heck of an improvement. I about gave myself whiplash LOL. now for the bashing part, the old one has been in the ram for over 80,000 miles

so basicly it sounds like you need a tune up...i have a 5.9 myself...how many miles are on it...if your going to do a tune up...replace the pcv valve, plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor. and all fluids from the bottom up...and youll notice a difference
Isn't the PCV on the valve cover on a 5.9L? Kinda hard to drop it in the intake.
Not sure what the recommended interval is on the 5.9L, it's 105,000 miles on the Hemi.
But yeah, if it runs better it was probably due for a new one.
I agree, it is time for wires cap and rotor as well if they are original.

I do keep up with all the other fluids and plugs and wires and distributor and that stuff, but that dang PCV always beat me lol. Lxman1, yeah I guess it is on the valve cover, I'm not as knowledgeable as I need to be with all the exact engine parts, but I always assumed if I did break it in there it wouldn't be good.
The odometer just rolled past 194,000 miles and actually I just realized she just turned 10 years old, build date was 10-01.

I broke mine when I pulled mine off.
lol
Got it off using visegrips and a ton of brute force.
Popped a new dealer unit in there and it didn't smoke anymore on start up.
Yes, the PCV is on the right-hand valve cover on the 5.9.

Dodge dude, when yours broke did any pieces fall into the valve cover? If so how did you clean the pieces out?

Nothing broke that I know of.
Replaced it in April and it's still running great. (blown plenum in consideration here)
Mine broke on the elbow, so I broke the elbow off then grabbed the rest with the vise-grips and yanked it out of the valve cover. The rest came out clean.
I thought I had a picture, but alas, I don't.
