Default Rear axle assembly swap

I have a 04 ram 1500 rear end went out and I'm looking to replace it with a 2006 Dodge ram 1500 rear axle same gear ratio 3.92 I've called several dealers around town with both VIN number to see if mine the 2004 in interchangeable with the 2006 1 dealer said yes and others were hesiatnt with there answers now mine is a regular cab truck and the 2006 is a mega cab what's the difference in the axle if they are the same gear ratio both axles look identical to one another ( my truck is interchangeable up to a 2007) ? Any help would be great I can't find one for the year for my truck anywhere unless I go new I want to put a used one in for now and have mine rebuild and upgraded thru the time? Thank you

When was your truck built? Is it covered by the pinion nut recall?

You have a 1500 but the axle in an 06 megacab (they used 2500 frame and running gear) is from a 2500, not a bolt in. You need to find one from an 02-08 1500.

So in other words the axle on the 06 is slightly longer then mine in the 04. Both had the nine and a quarter running gear with the 3.92 ratio. The 06 also has the leaf spring perches along with the offset shock absorber mounts. They both look identical to the T but then again pictures speak a thousand words

If the 06 has a 9.25 then it is not a megacab. Are you calling a normal quad cab a megacab?

Ah ok there we go then. Direct swap, in fact you can use any 9.25 Ram rear from 02-08.
