Exclamation 2008 dodge ram 1500 oil pan is shot

So I was doing a trans service on my truck when i looked at the oil pan and all wet on the bottom. It has had bubble surface rust for a while but now its leaking thru and needs to be replaced. called few local shops some said they could not do some same price as dealer. they want $1200 with parts to do the job. Anyone else have one replaced? New OEM pan, gasket and bolts. I was told front axel needs to be dropped along with maybe lifting the motor up a bit?

If you had a 2wd it would be a bit easier, but yeah with a 4wd there's a whole lot more stuff in the way. If you're comfortable/capable of ripping your front end apart to gain the clearance you'll save a lot of money. If not, yeah it's the labor that's gonna kill you.

Your gonna pay a couple hundred to replace a $65 oil pan if you let the dealer do it.

try $1264 with parts from the dealer. Private shops want 1k just for labor.

You could drain the oil (let it drain for hours), degrease it, sand the rust and use JB Weld. Or this stuff.

POR 15, or Chassis saver paint would prolly accomplish the same thing. Lot easier than pulling the pan.

I could try all those things and they may work for a while but i am keeping this truck for another 5 years or so and don't really want to just bandaide it. I also have the lifetime power train warranty which wont cover this and if the pan give out and lose all my oil the engine will be toast in minutes. The thing is soft if you press on it. This is also a snow plow truck so i need to make sure it holds up and is reliable as i can. Thanks for all the tips tho. I figuire this is the worst and most expensive thing i will do to this truck.
