5 speed manual.
I think survivability would depend greatly on your driving style.
If you beat on it, you will blow it up in short order. If you drive relatively nicely, it would probably last a long time. Just take care of it.

So I thought having the standard would be cool considering 99 percent of 1500s are automatic but it being a 4.7 the trans isn't rated for the hemi and probably a bunch of other stuff I don't know about yet. Either way for about 250 bucks and a day of time I could have the entire set up from computer to interior trim worth it or nah?
Maybe put a sign on the dash mumbling about 100 more horsepower/torque that the trans is designed for. (about 30% more power than the 4.7, depending on what year truck.
)

Automatic it is.
Hahahahaha so you're saying 4x4 6000 rpm clutch dumps aren't a good idea?

100 percent of the 1/2 ton 5.7 trucks are auto. I searched for a year to find a newer truck with a manual trans. With the 5.7, but it's a 2500 series. With the 4.10 gearing it gets along pretty good. I can walk it sideways on dry blacktop........ Limited slip rear. If you want a trans to last you need the nv4500/nv5600, but then comes the pcm you'll need re-flashed for a 1 of a kind 1/2 ton with a manual trans. And a 5.7. I really want a new power wagon, but the auto trans is very hard to swallow, think I'm gonna have to go diesel after I sell/trade my current truck so I can keep the manual trans.
2005 2500 slt 4x4 QC. It was more truck than I wanted, but it came handy to haul a 12,000lb 30' tri-axle enclosed car trailer 600 miles from NY to SC. Gas mileage sucked, but didn't do bad. Averaged 10 the whole trip, lowest I saw was 9 pulling hills.
