Yes Sir I spoke with the guy who installed the starter and he was happy with the wear. I also inspected the starter which was the factory and very sharp edges and definition without wear so the sound is very annoying but I know one of you fine people who has been around these specific vehicles will recognize the sound.
Thanks so much for your time and consideration with my seemingly trivial pursuit of a change in sounds with my vehicle.

Are you talking about the clicks/knocks right before you start it?

Hard to tell, but I kinda hear an elongated whir or buzzing noise right after startup. Is that the sound?

Completely remove the serpentine belt and start again, but don't run it more than half a minute this way. If the noise persists, then it's nothing in the belt path... meaning alternator, PS pump, water pump, etc. If the noise is gone, you need to look higher than the starter.

No, it is the sound after the starter has engaged and the motor has begun to fire but there is a RAAAAAAAAAAAR sound upon starting is a new sound which I am very displeased with as it has never been there and is quite obvious to me. My dad built and raced FORD in the early to mid 60's (had a Starliner he swapped out a built 406 tripower in and had trophies from his work" so I grew up around listening for any noises. He was very good at tearing down and rebuilding his marine diesels as well as his gasoline rigs. My dad always rolled down the windows at a stop light to make sure whatever he built was running just right. It has been working for me for a long time so I know to notice any new pitches is a definite sign of a problem. Most of my buddies are on truck number 4 since I got this one and they are all jealous of how well maintained my old girl is going on 18 years and has her all factory exhaust too. These are exceptionally dependable vehicles. I have been very pleased with the performance and longevity. I am from a time when 100k was all you got if you were lucky. This one has 115k but feels like it may have 20k on it now with the new water pump and drive belt it has tightened things up so she does not want to drop in 2nd prime and break them loose any more. Since I am an old man I take this to mean I should GINGERLY break her back in and not push for the quick snap of performance I am used to. Or should I just forget listening to any strange noises and turn the radio up and keep the petal to the carpet? Thanks for listening I just do my best to keep things running as they should the way I was taught. Thank you for listening to my rant. I just want my baby to do right.
Following this forum has been great maintaining my first ever Mopar over the years with your information about these vehicles; it has allowed me to maintain mine the way it likes and for that I am grateful.

Yes Sir you hear it. I believe it has to be somewhere else also as all of these items have been addressed. Could it have anything to do with the torque converter? I did have to really get on it on the highway a while back stuck between some big trucks. Is there anything that could have been spun due to excessive rpm? Saw it shift at around 6200rpm. No red line on these so I do not know what too many rpms is? Have a slight super chips tune for transmission shift points and tire size. I asked the guy who has been doing all of the work if he thought it may be the fan clutch too and he said it is possible but he is just so swamped with work he really does not have the time for the triage. I am just grateful to have finally found someone who does good work here in Vegas. I am from Smyrna/Marietta GA and went to Kennessaw State in the mid 80's so if I were there I bet I could find an old buddy to help me keep her running. Thanks

I forgot to mention I had a high amp alternator installed recently because I could hear a little rattle bearing noise. The new one is quiet even with stethoscope

It almost sounds like the throttle body is maybe stuck open for a minute. Have you cleaned out the throttle body/CAI? Maybe the intake, but almost like a spike in the truck trying "take a breath". Just my 2 cents and maybe worth checking.

I see that you mention fan clutch, that sounds like a possibility. There are some good videos for checking your fan clutch, and should be easy to do yourself.
A good fan clutch will give some resistance. Not locked but not spinning freely either.
When you first start up in the morning and drive away, do you hear a roaring sound for the engine that gets louder as you give more throttle?

it may be I am hearing the beginnings of a bad fan clutch? I can slightly hear it at lower rpms when cold but seems to disappear after warm up. You have to realize in Vegas most days it is over 100 before sunup so it’s during the winter months I can hear different sounds since it actually cools off
thanks you very much

Again, removing the belt eliminates everything in the belt path, including the fan. So, just a good way follow process of elimination.
