I think it if was installed backwards, the axle wouldn't be in the correct position. If the axle mounts to the center of the spring though, it likely doesn't matter which way it goes in. Left and right don't matter either.
So there is a a front and back of the leaf spring. I found this info. Hope this helps the next guy. What I did was turned the leaf springs around and it solved my shackle problem.

really?? Seems like it wouldn't matter, aside from locating the axle properly.......
I've replaced the entire rear end, springs and shocks on my 2002 1500 SLT Quad Cab RWD. I'm having a problem with body roll and sway. How tight should the front and rear shackle bolts be?
