this issue has been solved and was found to be a rocker thrown. Heads were pulled and complete replacement of rockers and lifters along with chiming chain and tensioners.
if you’re interested in reading the whole journey, i have kept it below. More upgrades to the gen 3 will be happening. Have a great one everybody!
Hi,
2004 dodge ram 1500 4.7
I am new to this platform and have an issue that just started happening out if nowhere(like most car problems). I noticed that yesterday when I started/cranked the car, I would hear a knock around the passenger side. The knock would only be heard then only but then I noticed the car would run like crap, especially over 2000rpm, i would hear more knocking like a misfire. There is no codes being thrown besides the check gage oil pressure sensor, which i have a replacement for. I’ve done some digging and I’ve heard many things that can be the issue.
1) timing tensioner is bad and/or
2) the lifters has gone bad
please let me know what you think can possibly be the issue. I just picked this up a few days ago and do not want to have to sell it for a loss.
thanks,
Roney

If I had those symptoms (knock and oil press light) I would take off the valve cover and see if there is sludge in my top end.
You could also examine the spark plugs for the passenger side and check for abnormal condition.
A mechanic's stethoscope is helpful in isolating the source of the knock. A two foot length of garden hose works good also.

it really seems to me that these engines tend to have issues on the passenger side(unless people bring it up because it is easier to get to). I will comeback when i get to my truck and record a video on the initial start up. The low oil pressure is just the oil pressur sensor, which will be replaced soon.
Sounds like detonation. Try any new gas stations lately?
no, I just got this truck for less than a week. Have not put new gas in it yet, will put in some newer gas and see. I will let it sit today and work on it tomorrow since i have tomorrow off.
