Hi bear with me my 1st post!
I had my 2005 Dodge Ram in a garage to have gas new tank straps installed,truck was running fine drove it to repair shop no problem starting everything worked as it should, they drove it in the shop installed straps on tank and was ready for me to pick up THIS IS WERE THE PROBLEM STARTED
Turned on key nothing no start no dash lights nothing after i turned of took out ignition key and one tiny light a bit bigger then a pen point flickering in dash had to disconnect battery for it to go out!!
The so called mechanick tried to boost it said it might be ground cable after 20 min he gave up on it !
Sorry for the long rant but service manager said they are booked up for 2 weeks and if i make appointment i will have to pay $$$ !!! Today getting it towed back to my place........and with your help try to find problem!

Erm, I wouldn't let them do that. You had an appointment, and brought them a running truck. They broke it. It's on THEM to fix it, immediately.

That said, its likely a bad connection somewhere. I would start at the battery, and work outwards from there.

Battery is almost new and is fully charged alternator tested said might be a bit overcharging!
Is there a main fuse or something that might be shutting it down where the truck is completely dead?s

 

I think the main fuse is between the alternator, and battery, and it's job is to keep the alternator from blowing up the battery. Wouldn't hurt to check the battery cables, make sure they are clean and tight on both ends..... They may have disconnected the battery to swap the tank, but, I don't think I would have..... Still, check it and see.

Testing ground is as good as any place to start. There are videos on this, but test is to read voltage at battery terminals, then read voltage with positive voltmeter lead on battery, and negative on a clean metal part of engine block.
I also like those usb/digital voltage readers that plug into your 12V outlets. This will tell you voltage to the ignition switch.

 

Thanks think i got it! Just ran a jumper cable from neg battery to nut and bolt on frame near rad. and everything lit up everything working
Battery voltage 12.40 with engine shut off.............15.50 running Is that ok?goes from 14 to 15.50.............or is it over charging/?
Going back to my other place where i had it towed ($100.00 bucks down the drain(=) Other place a few acres and big old shed! My favored place!!
Going to trace the org cable about 2 ft. long and 1/2 in.or more seems big!!
Will let you know how it works out!!

 

That is too high still.

 

Seeing it charge at 14.7, or in that neighborhood is fine, start going above 15, and ya gotta wonder about the voltage regulator..... which is integrated into the PCM......

 

Good advice Last thing i checked was the ground wire to where it was bolted to body (should have been 1st) the guy who worked on my truck should have known better must have broken it when putting straps on gas tank Any way live and learn don't use the 2005 Ram much might might get another few years out of it!! i'm a 1941 model year hope for a few or more myself
