If you had an Edge or ScanGauge or something similar that could monitor rail pressure/cmd rail pressure would be nice. Honestly I've had a lot of these trucks over the years and I feel like they all idled like this. It might just be normal on an engine that is no longer new, I'm not saying it couldn't be resolved, but diagnosing it might give you a headache and no real harm will come from it idling like that.

So many things you can watch, is it engine load, a/c cycling, alternator cycling, it sounds almost like a slight timing change, did the thermostat open and cool then engine a few degrees changing the timing map

The early 04 injector design is rock solid, my dad bought his early 04 new, still running stock original injectors at 230k

Things that would make me start to be concerned about injectors, is hard starting, hard starting with alot of smoking, hard starting with knocking, idling with a haze bluish to maybe greyish, excessive from normal black smoke accelerating, exhaust that makes your eyes start to burn standing next to it

I talked to one place they never seen the truck and they told me they thought the engine being cold could not atomize the fuel properly until warmed up and a few forums said this is normal so who knows but I always worried about injectors the truck doesn't smoke almost at all maybe a small puff if u floor it lol I typically baby the thing around or pull stuff with it I really appreciate the help I love the truck

Default Codes

I cycled the truck 3 times and got 2 codes p0628 and p0483
I think it's th lift pump low voltage and the fan clutch speed, I'm wandering if my lift pump or my alternator isn't going bad?

Do you still have the block mounted pump or has it been relocated to the fuel tank?

change the cam & crank sensors & see if the lope goes away. these sensors degrade over time & can cause a timing shift on injection events.

Important!!!... Use only Cummins sensors; Genos garage has them.

Ended up putting a fass on it but the wires to power the lift pump has been cut so for the time being I tapped the fuse box (plug in just hooked it to fuse box) still get it every now and again I also installed a smarty touch, rail pressure desired and actually seem close I guess, within 500psi of each other at all times the exhaust does kind of burn your eyes next to it but idk if that's just because it's exhaust or if that's a cause for concern, still doing the lope if I start it and let idle until I put it in gear or it warms up

Still getting the low voltage lift pump code but I think it's because I tapped the wire into the fuse box fan clutch thing is gone as I replaced alternator and belt along with tensioner(other issue) I have noticed a slight smell of coolant at the front of the motor when I cut it off but it doesn't haze or leak, I assume it's from the overflow/res

yes, the disconnected pump could cause that, I'm not familiar with the code number you are showing.

failed injector cant be ruled out I guess
