Default Momentary Clunk when Turning

I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport with about 191,500KM. This truck is in relatively great condition, very little rust on the body. 6” RCX Lift Kit rolling on 35s. Beautiful truck.

Over the last week, we did the rear right axle bearing and seal as it was leaking fluid and the bearing was loud. We also did all 4 brakes (Calipers, Rotors and Pads). I noticed before we did the brakes that when I would turn, it would shudder in what feels like the rear end.

When we drained the diff, there was no metal in it, nor did it look metallic. All was well. Thinking “Okay, might just be the brake locking up.” We finished all the brakes.

Lo and behold? Nada. Clunk is still there. The weird part? It is only when I turn from a stop!

4X4 Disengaged. Thought the locker was stuck when parked and switching so did a rolling switch. No change.

What the heck is causing this!!??

So you have a locker? Or limited slip? If you have clutches in there (limited slip) does your fluid have the additive that requires?

Is your truck normally AWD??? 4 lock I would think locks front and rear together, 4 Lo is exactly that, four wheel drive in low range. Run your VIN here, all caps please..... that'll tell you what your truck came with from the factory. Should be a code for the rear diff.....

Shoulda been able to see if it had clutches when you had the cover off.... But, if you weren't looking for the specifically, NOT noticing them is pretty normal.

Yep, that's a clutch type rear. If your fluid didn't have the friction modifier, you can simply add it, and call it a day.

Used 2L of the Lucas 75W-140 Trans & Diff Lube. I’m assuming this wouldn’t have the modifier in it?

If it does, it will say so on the label, if it doesn't say it does, then, it doesn't.

Is there a Modifier you recommend? Or does any work?

I haven't had to deal with that in some time.... but, pretty much any modifier that specifically states its for clutch-style limited slip diffs will work.
