On topic, but not quite......I am trying to solidify my decision about getting a gas motor 3/4 ton.
The diesel costs $8200 additional up front. Plus the interest on that $8200 over the term of the loan. I'm no mathmatician here, but I can work a little common sense into a calculator:
8200/$3.00(gal)=2733.33 galons.
2733.33 x 15(mpg avg.)= 41,000(miles driven)
In 41,000 miles, @ 20mpg average in the Cummins at $3.25/gal, would consume 2050 gallons at a cost of $6662.50. So at this point, at 41000 miles, the Cummins would save me $1537.50 in fuel. So by my non-scientific calculations, I'd have to drive the Cummins to 215,000 miles to break even on the initial cost, not including more expensive maintenence or diesel cost increases or the interest on the $8200 initial cost.

Like I said, I'm no mathmatician, so take this with a grain of salt. It's just a paranoid shopper trying to justify my decision to buy a gas motor, since my time towing will be less than 2%.

Any comments????

Anyone know why using the remote starter x2 per day just sucks down the MGP?? I'm guessing excessive idling?? I would avg 14-15mpg prior to winter hitting and now 10.5?? If I reset the avg, I can pull 14 & higher for a little driving around town and 18 & higher on the highway. Then once I park.. next time 10.5. If I hand calc it... would it actually turn out better? I know the oil change indicator works on key cycles... does the mpg calc do the same? The truck only has 5,000 on it and it seems to have gotten worse. Hope it starts to pick up as the engine is about broken in. Have run full synthetic since the 2,000 mile mark.

Engine................................. Hemi
Highway percent................... 30
City percent......................... 70

I have never seen why there are so many that use 89 octane. I don't see the benefit and those that use it tend to get less than I have over the last year of driving.

Because you're burning fuel and not moving
