Nitto Trail Grappler or Goodyear Duratrac
i dont have any experience with trail grapplers, but i know all of my sets of terra grapplers have never worn quickly. i personally love nitto and feel they are extremely underrated and underused. I know my dads stock good years on his truck are damn near bald at 33,000 miles which doesnt seem too great a lifespan to me, especially given he's never done any extreme driving.
You obviously don't read a lot of tire threads, do you?
It's rare to find a poor review of a Nitto (unless you read about how LOUD their Mud Grapplers are).
I put Terra Grapps on my Grand Cherokee based on the plethora of great reviews I've read across probably a dozen forums.
Now in my experience, Goodyear and BFG are the most over-priced, under-achieving tires on the market.
I've only had major problems with three sets of tires in my life, one set of Goodyear Wranglers, a set of BFG A/Ts and the BFG Traction T/As that were on my GC when I bought it.
I've had BFGs cup, wear very unevenly and pretty quickly. The T/As on my Jeep had five plugs I put in them when I yanked them off, ONE CAUSED BY A DRIED COTTON PLANT STALK THAT PUNCTURED IT. That one was the last "straw" and they got yanked in favor of the Nittos. Two years now, I go all the same places (my farm, camping, etc.) and I have yet to need to plug one...

They are all great tires. I read a lot before dropping $1650 on tires and came to the conclusion that I needed a tire that was a good all around performer including winter conditions. The Duratrac is siped and will likely offer much better snow/ice performance that the trail grappler. I did a lot of reading on the duratrac's and the only bad thing that I read was that the sidewall flexes a lot on heavy trucks such as 2500/3500 diesels.
On a side note, I have to laugh at everyone bashing Goodyear because the wranglers suck. I know, I got a whopping 20k miles out of mine, but keep in mind they are a *Cheap* tire and you get what you pay for. It would be similar for me to say that Cadillacs are all garbage because the Chevy Aveo sucks...

Yeah, the guys with Jeeps are Duratrac fanatics! I considered them for my Grand Cherokee, but between the fact that the Wranglers failed for me so bad and the deal I got on my Trail Grapplers ($127.50 per tire in 265/70/17) I jumped on the Nittos. My first choice was actually the Mickey Thompson ATZ (I've had GREAT success out of Mickey Thompson & Dick Cepek tires in the past & have FCIIs on my truck). But at $200 a tire in that relatively small size, it just wasn't in the cards.
BTW, Mickey Thompson has just released a Terra Grappler clone (as other companies have recently) called the Baja STZ.
Another thing I find amusing is how many people LOVE the Terra Grappler but HATE the Toyo Open Country A/T or Vice Versa. They are the SAME company and almost identical tires...
There is a LOT of talk on the diesel truck forums on the Duratrac sidewalls failing, so I'd stay clear on a QC 4x4 if you pull or haul.
Nitto trail grapplers here for about 35 000 kms or so and still love them. I have the 35 " version and at least half of it is towing cross country and they are still in good shape, fairly quiet and awsome on and off road. Winter time i run the Toyo Open Country studless and are sweet also. As for goodyear there is a reason why dodge uses them on their stock vehicles, cause their god damn cheap.
My choices for tires are Nitto and Toyo all the way they make awsome summer and winter tires.

There is no comparing the Goodyear Wrangler and the Duratrac tires, the Wranglers just plain suck.
I bought the Goodyear Duratrac 285/65/20 for my truck, 35x11.5x20 I now have 25000 miles on them and there an excellent tire, I still have 11/32nd tread left (18/32nd new) and they work better in the snow, ice and mud then any tire I have ever purchased inc. BFG and Nitto. There quite on the paved road for an aggressive tire and look good too.
Yes Goodyear tires are expensive, and more so then a lot of other good tires but Duratrac tires are DOT approved traction tires, so you won’t see me ever have to throw chains on my 35x20 tires to get over the mountain.

I know you didn't ask about either of these... I've always been a fan of BFG's. I just put 4 275/60/20 Cooper Zeon tires on my '09 and so far really like them. My last set of BFG's I had on my '06 I bought used and then put another 85k miles on them and they're still on that truck.
Hey there U8Racing,
Do you have any pics of your truck with those tires on them? Thats about the size that Im looking for. Also, did you put a lift or a leveling kit on yours? If so, which one?
