It just keeps getting worse for Ford F-150

Ford likes to (constantly) repeat the "best selling truck in America" line. They can say this because the sales figures consider Chev and GMC to be two completely different and unrelated truck manufacturers. Ford also includes sales for models that have no equivalent with other brands (these days they say ''F-series trucks" which includes commercial models).

If you need numbers, here's 2010 ... they are consistent with sales patterns over the last 40 years, with Dodge having the best sales improvement over the last 15 or so.

US Light Duty Ford F-150 313,393
US Heavy Duty Ford incl F-450/550 Cab + Chassis 214,956
US Total Ford (All Light/Heavy Duty/HD C+C) 528,349

US Light Duty Chevrolet Silverado 1500 296,108
US Heavy Duty Chevrolet Siverado HD 74,027
US Total Chevrolet Siverado 370,135

US Light Duty Ram 1500 123,785 **
US Heavy Duty Ram HD incl 4500/5500 Cab + Chassis 75,867
US Total Dodge Ram (All Light/Heavy Duty/HD C+C) 199,652

** When I view this page it displays weird; for some reason the number "one two three" seems to make the forum SW think there's supposed to be a photo there, then can't find it, then shows the icon. If I type 123 again anywhere, same thing happens, so it's "one hundred twenty three thousand, seven eighty five".

US Light Duty GMC Sierra 1500 101,239
US Heavy Duty GMC Sierra HD 28,555
US Total GMC Sierra 129,794

Siverado + Sierra 1500 (2010) = 397,347; F150 = 313,293
Incl Silverado HD + Sierra HD 2500/3500 = 499,929 ; Incl Ford F250/350/450/550 series variants and all C+C = 528,349

You can go back 50 years, it's the same. Ford tends to just barely outsell Chevy alone (usually 5% or so) with 1/2 tons. Ford does very well in Heavy Duty trucks but these include models with no available equivalent from GMC or Chevy.

I don't know anyone who seriously considers Chevy and GMC 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton and 1-tons to not be basically the same truck, I consider the Ford boast as just a marketing ploy especially if they're trying to sell you an F-150; it's factually correct but functionally an empty boast written by the marketing department.

Ford had a banner year in 2010 (sales up 27.7%) compared to the rest of the industry (+20.3%) so these numbers are not cherry picked; they flatter Dearborn if anything. If you look at other years in the past the F-150 generally has a lower market share overall.

The Toyota Tacoma outsells the Ranger in the US 2-1, so expect any sales boast there to include "Domestic" in the fine print.

Lets also not forget Ford dropped the F-100 and introduced the F-150 in it's place specifically to evade emissions regulations, which it's truck engines could not meet at the time, when neither Dodge or Chevy/GMC had any issues there.

All my vehicles have been way better to me than I have been to them. I feel bad for anyone that is making these outrageous monthly payments we agree to (dont bother telling me how you paid cash richie rich nobody cares) while their pride and joy is sitting in the shop, regardless of the brand/color/cab/bed/drive/engine. I read the posts on these forums and cant help to think a lot of issues and repeated trips to the dealership are just plain poor troubleshooting.

I'd like to say the wife has a 2005 trailblazer that I think may be the best poor weather vehicle I've ever driven. I had a 94 ranger I received for my 16th birthday brand new off the lot. I destroyed that truck in 40,000 miles but ford and my dealer fixed it under warranty for every little thing I did to it, even burning out the clutch at 10,000 miles doin 4th gear donuts on the ice. I had a 94 Dakota Sport that was totaled in a rear end collision, I bought it back for 20% and used a $3 can of spray paint on the cab where the bed dented it and drove it for another 5 yrs/75,000 miles before trading it in with 191,878 miles on the original engine transmission and clutch. I traded a 2001 F150 rcbs with a v6 that had 254,211 miles for a 2004 S10 CC, I towed a 19' bass boat all over these mountains until I traded it for my current 2012 Ram 1500 CC Express.

Like your truck by the way, I had a white 99 club cab with the 318. I realy liked it better than my 04 reg. cab with the 4.7.
I'm also a former owner of a white 99 club cab but with the 360. Love my 2010 but god do I miss my 99.

I've also enjoyed reading this thread and find it kind of funny.

My neighbor, HUGE Ford guy informed me yesterday that his 2011 F150 is at the dealership with a transmission fluid leak. He's hoping it's not major as the dealer has already informed him that if the transmission has to be replaced there is a three to four month back-order on them.

It's funny, but in my driveway there are three Chrysler products (a 2002 Jeep, a 2010 Dodge Journey and my '04 Ram) and directly across the street in his driveway are three Ford products (an '08 Mustang, a 2005 F150 and his 2011 F150). He ribs me all the time about Chrysler and their financial woes, but NONE of the three in my driveway have been to the dealer for a warranty repair (and only the Journey has been in once for a recall) while he seems to have one of his three at the dealer about monthly and with the exception of the 2010 Journey, my vehicles are a hell of a lot older than his. Just sayin'...

I've been hoping for "Sooner" since December of '07, when they reflashed my Explorer TCM to correct the downshift surge. I guess their happey with the half--- fix they implemented, which has been driving me batty driving at residential speed limits. Ford Corporate did absolutely nothing to correct there transmission issue then, and considers the reflash to an "Acceptable solution under normal operating conditions."
