Default Wind noise

First time Dodge owner here - bought an 09 SLT Quad Cab 1500 w/Hemi last week and was wondering if anyone has encountered this:
I get a whistling noise (sounds like its coming from windshield area) at about 65mph and it gets louder as you go faster. It gets very annoying at about 80 and louder still as you go faster. Dealership checked it at those speeds with a device that measures air flow (looking for leaks). They found none and claim that ambient noise is normal and to be expected.
I have older vehicles that are quieter than this new one and do not believe for a second that this is normal.
I appreciate any thoughts you guys may have.

Default Complained to my dealer as soon as I got home.

I complained to my dealer about the wind noise the day I brought it home. I bought mine at a good price 300 miles away. Dealer is always out or busy, will not call me back or write me. Wrote me daily when I was buying. They have my e-mail and 2 phone numbers. Pisses me off and the poor receptionist knows it. I have called more times than I know now.
Wrote Dodge 3 times about the wind noise. No response in a month. I tried to return it. The noise bothers me that bad....called twice today.

I believe the wind noise is coming from the mirrors. Specifically the space between the mirror and the cab. Whatever you call the connection part. I have been in rain on the interstate and the water spray is violent through there. The wind has to accelerate through that smaller space. That platic is like an amp too. Tap it with your finger. Could be wrong, just know its loud somewhere in that area.
I have not seen anyone else complain so I have not said anything here.

I will now. The wind noise is terrible at speeds over 60 mph.

Dodge claims to have done extensive wind tunnel testing for areodynamics AND interior wind noise. Wondrous reviews all over, bull s*** all over
I had a 98 Dodge laramie and it was quite at interstate speeds. I have never owned a vehicle that has this much wind noise. I would like to see a recall. I do not see anything I can do about it. Can't wax that plastic to try and smooth the flow....if thats it.
I am glad to see someone else complain here. I have been complaining to Dodge, maybe here someone will read here and perhaps something will be done about it. Ha!
No car or truck should be this noisy and especially not for what these cost.

All the way at the bottom. I could list page after page of praise. Annoying, somebody goofed. Forgot to test over 60 mph

Wind noise on the highway will drive you crazy. I test drove two identical trucks and the first one was very quiet. The second one had terrible wind noise from somewhere. I don't think it is the mirrors unless there is a gasket or something that got wedged or pinched in some way. The truck that I bought does not have any wind noise, but an occassional cross wind gust in the mirror. That happens in all vehicles. The noise you guys are having is not normal for this truck and you need to push the issue. Go to the dealer and demo one of their trucks that does not have the noise and then drive your right afterward and you will get their attention. Go luck and don't quit pushing. I bet it is the trim around the windshield/windows or the glue under the windshield. Make them admit that there is noise that other trucks don't have and go from there.

I have an 09 Laramie and I have no noise. I would keep complaining and make them do something about it.

Thanks guys,

That is good news indeed. I assumed it was ALL of the 2009's. However my 2009 is the only one I have taken over 60mph.

Now I hope the local dealer here in Pensacola will work with me resolving this.
Not having any luck with Dodge so far.

Makes my day to hear this can be fixed.
I will go today and take a spin in another 2009 dodge Ram and see...listen for myself.

You bet I will pursue this.
Thanks again,
Blue

Go get them Blue and let us know how it turns out. Again it is not normal, but it is there on a few which makes me think assembly issues, variables.

The windnoise you guys are experiencing is definitely not normal. There is a gasket that goes between the mirror and the body. It is possible that gasket is either missing or not installed properly. As for the whistle, there may be a gap in the windshield urethane? Is the cowl screen fully seated to the windshield?

Took it to the local Dodge dealer here in Pensacola. Took the tech out on the interstate.
He said it was excessive.
Took another 2009 Laramie out on the interstate. Some wind noise but not even close to as bad as mine.

Came back and the tech says its escessive! but not enough for warranty to fix it.
I will have to pay for its fix. We will see about that. I think he is just wrong but if I must sue I will. I will find out Monday the facts. I see ignorance all the time.

The tech does not know what it is either. Said he might have to keep it a week. Tape off this and that...take it to 70 mph....until they find the problem. Add miles and miles to my truck.
Friday today, no go on anything today. "Call next week."
Dodge does not do loaner cars anymore.
My insurance rents, but what a crock. Its a brand new truck that has a problem.

Nice enough folks, but I still leave with a flawed truck.

Sales Dept is seperate from service. You should be calling the service dept. You need to set up an appointment. Don't tell them you think it's in the design of the truck because they will send you on your way and say , yeah that's the problem and there;s no way to fix it. No dealer is asking for warranty work these days. They are trying to avoid as much as possible through the economic hard times. Chrysler is not paying out crap for warranty work, that's why they give such a great warranty. They are basically sticking it to the dealerships.

I never get passed the receptionist. I have asked for everbody. They know I am not satisfied. Ignoring me, I know Chrysler is having a hard time. Part of my decision to put money in their pockets. A small part...but why I did not consider Toyota or Nissan trucks.

After talking to Dodge service manger and head tech in person here in Florida today it seems they want to help. But as you said there hands are tied trying to make money on trucks they are having to give away.

Chrysler is the only one who can make the call to fix a problem or not.
If you have excessive wind noise or even midly annoying wind noise complain here please.

http://www.chrysler.com/webselfservi...m%28%27R%27%29.

Need VIN and Mileage.

Perhaps we can get mine and any others with the annoying wind noise fixed. It can't be just the two of us.
