Default RER, REN, Gracenotes Updates

I wanted to pass along a little information I came across the other day for those of us with RER (Nav) and REN (non Nav) Mygig radios. I found that there are downloadable updates for these and for the gracenotes on our Mygig systems. My truck with a 11/08 build date had a RER software version that was 2 levels old, and gracenotes that was 1 level old. I went ahead and downloaded and installed version 2.042 which is a beta version. I really like many of the new features, but my favorite is the ability to turn off all the side bar touch buttons on the Nav screen. Now the map is bigger (full screen) and cleaner IMO. Some have reported a few issues with the beta, but I have been running it for 2 months and so far no issues at all.

Lots of info on this website - http://mofv.com/mygig/ including instructions on how to download, burn to DVD and install. Good site to bookmark.

If you want to download 2.042 (only for NAV systems), you can get it here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QPDMY75T

Some of the improvements with 2.042 are:

Phonebook download streamlined
GPS time improved
Alternate routes added
Stopovers improved
Voice recognition improved
VES in RER radios streamlined
Improved graphics
Better menu flow

A Play/Pause button has been added to music files and disc tracks
BT phonebook transfer icon now appears on screens other than a Uconnect menu
New phone battery strength and signal icons
Voice navigation is better
Inital spash screen now has Uconnect & Dodge on it

That sight is awesome. I got a REN off Ebay and was having the HDD Corruption problem, found the solution there. Updated software, been good ever since.

I've been running 2.042 for about a month now. So far, no problems and all the updates are nice. I like that there's now the Bluetooth icons, and the Nav changes are great.

My dealer wants to charge me $35 to do the updates Gracenotes. Or I can buy the disc from them for $31. Just burnt the update to DVD, gonna try and install it myself. Be nice if I could find release dates for Gracenotes.

The units are completely different. You'd have to swap out the radio, plus add the GPS antenna. Both are pretty easy, if you're will to spend the money.

It is pretty easy to do. Just follow the instructions from the website. You really just download, extract the image, burn the image, and load it into the player. Just don't interrupt the update by pushing/touching anything. If you don't like it the update, you can install an earlier version.
