Default The final answer on if the factory brake controller works on a 2010

Yes it works. Thanks to topgun on the board here for selling me this since they are on backorder right now and he didnt get it to work on his '09. So dont ask me about '09s, all I know is what happened with my 10/09 build date 2010 CC with factory class IV hitch.

No it does not show up in the EVIC, didnt expect it to.

No the hill holder does not work with with the trailer brakes, not sure if it does with a factory equipped one either. I suspect not.

But it works as it should, when you plug the trailer in the display will light up and you use the +/- to set it on a scale of 1-10, when you stop and slow down or use the manual lever it switches to % output, 0-99%. If you sit at a stop the voltage will step up 10-20-30% after a few seconds to help hold the trailer while stopped.

You do not have to apply the brakes for the manual lever to operate.

If you unplug the trailer the yellow light trailer comes on until you cycle the ignition, or plug the trailer back in of course.

If the brake output shorts to ground the yellow trailer light will flash and the display will read 'SC.'

When the lights turn on the +/- button lights up and the display dims.

Thats about it, few pics of the install, takes about 10-15 minutes. If you need detailed instructions to do this then you shouldnt be doing it. Just be careful, the plastic dash parts on these scratch very easy.

What is this "hill holder" you speak of?

Its in EVIC options (on my laramie anyhow), it just holds the brakes on for a couple seconds so the truck doesnt roll back or forward if you are on a steep grade when you let off the brakes and go to give it gas. They call it 'hill assist' or something like that. Some have claimed hat the factory trailer controller will stay on with the hill assist, on mine it does not. Voltage to the trailer brakes drops to zero the instant I let off the brakes.

Hmmmm..... wonder which install I will go with to get the clean look I am after..... LOL

Thanks for the update. So did you pull with it? How does it do? My old one I had to constantly adjust depending on if I was on the highway or in town. Set if for highway, it would lock up in town, set it for town, would be weak on the highway. Same with this? Or better?

Just trying to get an idea of if it is a good controller, not just a good looking one.

I've used the prodigy for about 10,000 miles of towing 4,200 lbs with my Dakota and it works great.

Doesn't look so good where I mounted it in the new Ram though. I have a new bezel on order and I'll make it look mo purty on the next try.

Its a pretty basic proportional controller. It doesnt have the 'boost' features or reverse lock out like P3/Prodigy. I just towed my car trailer empty so I dont know how well it works, just that it does work. Its a little nicer since you can see where the gain is set and it displays the number all the time. That way if it is different in city/highway or hot, cold, empty, loaded etc its easy enough to set it. All my controllers needed some tweaking between highway and city (and especialy hot and cold) but the prodigy was a guess because of the thumbwheel and you had to move the manual lever all the way over to see where it was set, the P3 is a little easier since it has a pushbutton gain controls.

I wont tow full weight until the summer so I cant compare the performance to other controllers I've had.

Is this unit a "Plug and Play" for the 09 or do you have to modify or splice into the harness?

this unit does NOT WORK with early build 2009 trucks .. they have a different plug under the dash .. Dodge changed the plug in the VERY LATE 2009 builds, and all 2010 builds .. The plug is not only different but there are now TWO plugs ... im VERY dissapointed that dodge would do this ... altho i do NOT have a trailer with brakes on it, in the future i want to buy a camper .. and i know it will have electric brakes .. and to NOT be able to use a CLEAN factory brake controller with nice clean factory bezzel makes me REALLY angry ..
