Default 2010 dodge truck???

Ok, I know I will take some heat here
I have been a loyal dodge guy for the last 15+ yrs, buying a new 3/4 ton every 2-3 yrs
I like dodge
BUT!!!
I have had issues with all of them!
biggest complaint was ball joints! all the last 3 had the fail every 30-36,000 miles!
gas milage when towing is just bad, and power, well, I wish there was more in a useable range

any ways,
I am looking for some guys that have owned 3/4 ton dodges , and now have a 2010
are there really any big improvements with the hemi, and its towing power
as my 06 hemi, get 8-9 miles per mile with a 2500 lb trailer! and that sucks!( doesn't justify a Cummins either)

I have 2 friends that just bought a Toyota tundra, and get mush better gas all over, and after driving them, have me thinking about buying one!!
I just hate to leave dodge!!

I have been to both Toyota and Dodge dealers, and Toyota has made me a big difference in an offer( been to 3 dodge dealers, and 2 toyota's)

I refuce to buy a GMC/Chevy, and well fords, -f250 gas, is even worse on gas MPH, so thats out.
cannot buy a dodge 1500 with a quad cab, and an 8 ft bed!!
so I have to make up my mind, a toyota or a dodge!
can get in a Toyota for 12 grand less!
can tow all I need, and makes more HP, and CLAIMS better gas mph!

so come on guys
anyone have 2010 2500 hemi??
and WHY doesn't doge have the 6.1 hemi in this truck! instead of there cars only!!
that would make me happy! and keep me loyal!!

All I can say is take the Toyota for a long test drive first. My back could not handle the seats in my bro's truck. I took it to pick up my trailer when I first bought it, loved the power, hated the looks, loved how it hauled, hated the seats. My Dodge, although not a 2500 has just as much power, pulls the trailer just as nicely and has way better seats. Surprising since his were the top line seats offered and mine are only 1 step up.

Hit up a Toyota forum and get some real world mileage on them. My bro says his is decent unloaded, but pulling his trailer, not so good. My truck is running 20 mpg empty, not sure about loaded yet, although I am not expecting much. Around town, he gets better mileage then me by a fair bit, although my drive is different then his, and I still love playing with the Hemi.

You can't go wrong with a Yota, great trucks. And they certainly go like hell, just try and stop them!!!

If your only towing 2500lbs, why get a 3/4 ton? A 1/2 ton will pull that no problem and much better gas mileage. Not to mention your comparing a 3/4 ton dodge to a 1/2 ton Toyota. No wonder there's a difference in the gas mileage.

I have 07 Tundra (extremely rare package combo) but this is my first truck, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

I must agree with the comments above:
-the entire drive train is very good, 6 speed is awesome, very good shift points. I drove 2009 ram 1500 hemi once at the dealer and while I loved the truck, drive train does not compare, felt like it was hunting for gears (compared to my Tundra)

-looks are very subjective, ram looks awesome in SLT sport trim, in and out. I wish ram was on the market when I bought yota

-seats are OK, I guess (can't compare) at least for shorter trips. But on a couple of round trips from FL to NYC (950miles each way) I remember I was going crazy how uncomfortable the seats were (I always try to make the trip in one day)

-seats are pretty much the same (comfort wise) regardless of trim, just different upholstery.

-interior sucks. ram is much better in that department (obviously a far cry from any german car I owned, even from the '90s)

-my mileage is around 15 combined (4x4 truck). highway can get up to 20 (60-65mph) with my 4.10 sport diff (as opposed to 4.3 standard) and around 18 (70-75). around town is 14. I towed 6x12 tandem enclosed U-haul once from FL to NYC and I think it was around 11-12 (60-65mph) and 9 (75mph) which I was not happy about (though the truck had only 10k miles then)

Of course, it boils down to the price difference at the end of the day. But I have no idea where are you getting $12k difference from? make sure you are comparing apples to apples. 1500 hemi 4x4 SLT Sport with leather will run you around $41k MSRP. Comparable Tundra would be in Limited trim at the very same MSRP. I don't know what are the current incentives but I can't see a huge difference, maybe you are dealing with a wrong dodge dealer?

He is comparing the 1/2 ton Tundra to the 3/4 ton Dodge to get an 8 ft box. Yes, the 3/4 ton will be more expensive but you are getting more truck. Bigger, beefier, heavier with worse mileage. I think his mind is made up, just looking for someone to back him up? I know when comparing apples to apples, the Dodge came out way ahead price wise for me. But I did get the small box, not sure how I will like that as I have only ever owned long boxes in the past. So far, no issues with anything I couldn't fit in other then the 12 foot trim..... thank god for a power rear window!

Ok guys
to answer a few questions
I cannot get a quad cab 1500 1/2 ton with an 8 foot bed, and I have other toys that are heavier, just don't have to drag them that far , just about the farm, and other local places
so I really need the 3/4 ton!
the tpyota is pretty close to the only truck out there that I have to pick from .
I have 2 friends that have tundra's
one is a 2010, with only 2500 mile on it, he is getting 18 on the highway, and average about 16!

I have in all my last dodge 3/4 tons( going back from my 97-99-2001-04- and now 06)( have had more but back then gas was cheap!)
never gotten better than 16 mph, and that is driving out west on flat land
I average at 11 mph!
put a trailer behind it, and I never got over 10, and average about 9mph!

on the Tundra's, yes I hear they suck gas towing! friend gets about 9, but thats pulling a 8,000 lb trailer on the highway on a 800 mile trip!
I get 9 mph pulling 2500 lbs! on my 750 miles trips!, and it dogs on every hill, he CLAIMS his doesn't!

not sure I buy that!, but he did trade in a duramax on the Tundra!!( more for all the problems he had with it, and GMC, not doing anything to help!) so he knows about what a truck can pull and how it will hold speed on a hill with a trailer!

Again, I need an 8 foot bed, not a GM man at all, or a ford!( there f-250 is the worse gas truck on the market, so I ain't going there) and again, cannot get a ford in a 150 quad cab with any capacity to tow what i have! or haul what i need!

so does anyone here have a 2010 2500 in a hemi??? to offer any real info pro's con's>
I like my dodges" but I think they are in need to up grade some parts! trans, and get a 6.1 hemi in the 3/4-1 ton trucks

remember guys the 3/4 ton truck, weight almost a 1,000 lbs more than a 1500,1/2 ton and the hemi in the 1500 is rated at more HP,
see my point! sure they run a ton better, so if you don't have a 3/4 ton, you don't know what I am talking about in real running!

the 2500 gas is under powered, and that CTD is just so way too high for a daily driver! and a truck that doesn't tow that often! to justify!

I am not looking for someone to just agree with me
I AM looking for someone with a 2010 2500 hemi, and has towed with it, and had either a tundra before, or a an 06-07-08 ram 2500 for comparison!

Go with the tundra. At least when you decide to trade it in for a dodge 3 months later you won't be too upside down. Seriously, have you checked out reports from other sources like c&d, motortrend, or edmunds? Dodge 2500 is truck of the year for a reason. Just saying...
