its simple laws of gravity and resistance!

that is my point, for a heavier less aero, truck to get better gas mph, it needs a faster shifting trans, and a motor that makes more of its HP?toqure in a rmp range that 's usefull, and not one that makes power at 5 grand!
who drives at 5,000 rpm??
and no way to get mph at them rpm's!
It's not that much heavier and any reduction in aerodynamics is just due to increased ground clearance.

Tundra's suck!! They are a poser of a truck and the ugliest thing around. i about puke whenever I see one. A real american shouldn't be caught dead in a Tundra!!! Plus, Toyota has lied, cheated, and covered things up for years in order to suck america dry. It's completely unamerican to support a shady foreign company like Toyota. Plus, Tundra's have so many problems and recalls it's nuts! They are junk compared to the new generation Ram. American's need to wake up and stop supporting Toyota. Toyota's quality is NOWHERE near what it was 10 years ago. With all that said... the Ram is by far the better truck. Looks, handling, performance and it wasn't built by a company who put profits before American lives. Sorry, but only ignorant and unamerican people buy Tundra's.

Agreed about Ram being a better truck.

But Toyota is not the only company that has put profits before American lives.
If you think Toyota's bad, have you read up on Ford's reaction in regards to the Pinto debacle in the 70's, or even more recent the Ford/Firestone fiasco which was attributed to 203 deaths and over 700 injured occupants, in the United States alone?
I'm not defending Toyota, but the Domestics are not immune to the 'profits first' motto.

HOLY CRAP!!!! after seeing that durability test video that eclipsems posted you couldn't pay me enough to even consider a trundra, there is absolutely no frame strength there whatsoever. If I were you, i'd stick to what i know and buy a dodge at least there is quality there and it can handle a load/beating. I wouldn't even call the tundra a truck, it's a car with a box instead of a trunk. Your biggest reasons seem to be hauling heavy loads for your farm... you're gonna save yourself alot of headache and grief buying the dodge, the frame and construction of it will take it. As for MPG's that's kinda the given for haulin' heavy loads and having a HD truck. Sorry man but you can't have your cake and eat it too. just my two cents.

The 1/2 ton Ram and 1/2 ton tundra should be very comparable in price, but the Dodge looks 10X better, I haven't heard anything good about the Tundra except that it has a big motor that pulls out quicker than Ram but will use more fuel... the tundra 1500 has a terrible ride compared to ram 1500

I don't think you would be as happy with a 6.1L in a 2500, would take some changes, it is a real top end engine, big bore. They'd do better off building an engine the same size, but a lower rpm than the SRT engine, for trucks anyway. Longer stroke, smaller bore. Fords 5.4 atleast makes good low end, but yet, in that heavy *** thing, no 6 speed auto can make it make more torque, it only puts it in the right rpm. So much for that! Have you noticed tho they did lower the rpm for the 5.7l torque rating? I truely think there is a need for a "heavy half", or "camper special", as I said in a post yesterday. Why not Air bag springs, why not bigger rotors for a truck that maybe the GVWR could be upped to maybe 7200 or 7300. Why not a 4.10 gear in a 1/2 ton. As for the Tundra, I looked at them, they do have some good points, like a 6 speed that will give a better gear in 5th than i have in 4th, and lower rpm in 6th gear, slightly, with the 4.3 gears. The plugs are not a pain to get to when changing, and there is 8 less that wount need changing as often. Wish Dodges had a drain plug for the diffs! Tho I will say, more US citizins build Toyotas than Rams, with Hemi being made south the border. Don't quite know tho how long the Toy aluminum block will last, since it hasn't been out as long, and yeah, I liked the Ram interior WAY better, the frame WAY better, and mileage, altho my TRX4 will not get great mileage, goes with the territory. You can make a Ram 1500 stiffer, but it takes alot to make a Tundra softer!

well guys I like all the imput here, thats why I posted on this site
that said, it still seems like 90% of the guys here are 1500-1/2 ton owners, and to be honest, not trying to be rude, you guys don't know much about the reality of driving/owning a 2500 hemi!
I again have had 2 ,3rd generation hem,i's in a 2500, and 5 before it with 360's!

and I know for a fact that they are solid trucks, and handle weight great, not my point, or gripe!

My complaint is mostly, the fact these hemi motors make power, yes, but it makes it in the upper RPM's where you really are never at unless you are seriously stepping on it
My 2500, with 33's, and 4.10 rears
runs about 1850 rpm's at 75mph, and this hemi doesn't make much power there, every time I hit a hill( I live in a very hilly place, hills are every where)

On the interstate, on cruise at 75( 75 on my GPS, not just the speedo, as its off now I have bigger tires)
it hits a hill at 75, then proceeds to drop MPH, even as more gas petal pressure is applied, it drops to about 67 mph, then down shifts to about 3650 rpm, and stays there till it gets over a hill, and MAYBE it will get back to 75 or not, pending on the grade of the hill!

NOW if I have a trailer behind it!, a 2 place snowmobile flat bed trailer( weights 850 lbs) and an ATV, a honda 400 forman, weights about 475 lbs! for a total of about 1300 lbs
It will dog a ton more, and this is a superlight trailer/load!

On a hill, wait, on a interstate, I cannot tow this in overdrive(yes I know) as it will not stay at 75 in that gear, constant down shifts, and gas mph sucks with all the rpm revs from all the shifts

IF I run in the tow haul mode, it will pull on level ground at about 2300 rpm at 75, and again, on every hill it will drop speed, even as you give it more gas , untill it drops about 8 mph, then it NOW down shifts to about 3800 rpm, on most hills, on ones with steeper grades, it will drop to about 5200 rpm,s and then never make it back to 75 till it goes over the hill!
and gas mph at 5200 , I can see the gauge drop!

I again have owned 2 of these and they both towed the same!, my 360 powered ones, actually puilled better on a hill, they seemed to make better power in a better rpm range with a load!

I know the HEMI make HP, but like I have been saying, it just doesn't make it where it can be usefull in normal driving!

it needs to make more power in normal driving RPM range, and the trans., well it should stay on top of staying in a rpm range that make power, so there are not so big voids in between shifts and thus power loss!

that is my gripe, the 1500's have way updated trans, and power delivery, they need to push some of that info over to the Hd series

and as for the 6.1
wll yes it should be built to make again HP in a usefull range

the 6.1 heads, and up grades are what is used to make more power in the 5.7

so its the right idea
and the 1/2 to 3/4 ton, the ride hieght, and just overall height is different, and the weight, and width!
and all that adds up again to less gas mph, and less HP per pound!

and again the 2500 hemi, make 's less HP than the 1500
so figure that out! a bigger heavier, less aero truck, gets the less powerful motor?????
WHY?? where is the logic?

Check the stats.... the Hemi and Tundra make horsepower at the same rpm's, 5600, although the torque comes to full at 3600 on the Tundra vs 4000 on the Dodge. But the Tundra makes less overall torque so I wonder how close they would be at 3600? So, if the power being to high is your gripe, looks elsewhere then the Tundra, very similar sats there.

Did you know the Firestones were supplied by a japanese company? Did Ford try to cover it up? No. That's the difference. All automakers have issues.... and some openly address them while others cover them up. Did you know Toyota has QUIETLY fixed dangerous defects on the assembly line while failing to tell customers who are driving around with them? Did you know Toyota will call you in for a courtesy tune up or whatever.... and then replace defective parts while they have the car... without telling the customer? They even pad the bill for other little things to make up for the time they spent fixing the secret defect!!! You compare a big domestic recall to shady actions by a foreign automaker that cost lives?

Exactly. Tundras are garbage and there is a reason that you don't see them on a work site. A tundra is more car than truck. People who buy them are seriously uninformed or extremely ignorant and unpatriotic. It's one thing to buy garbage but to buy garbage from a company like Toyota??? Not to mention... the Tundra is SUPER UGLY. Who ever designed that thing should be fired immediately. The Ram is 100 times better looking.

There's a test video running around showing the Tundras box slapping the cab while going over bumps. No domestic does that!
