I need to know if it's the truck or the tires that's not performing on wintery roads?

Default I need to know if it's the truck or the tires that's not performing on wintery roads?

I have an 09 Sport 4x4 and a set of Cooper Zeon LTZ. I've been pretty happy with the tires (look amazing) but now that the roads are getting slick (icy) I have had terrible stopping power, sliding through intersections when trying to turn right.

The truck wants to push when I'm driving through the subdivision and going around a corner. I must drive very slow, I believe to slow and I'm wondering if its the tires or the truck?

You in 4x4 mode or 2 wheel drive?

Ice is terrible to drive on. You have got to go slow, especially when making turns. 4x4 mode will help you get moving, adds more natural engine braking. Also trucks tend to light in the rear and that is a problem on ice.

Agreed with this statement.
I have a 2wd SLT and I always load up 250+ lbs when it gets crappy out.
Makes a world of difference.
I get around better than most of the trucks that have 4x4 and empty beds.

I was thinking about buying those cooper zeon tires so I hope it is not them... Do they seem worse than the factory tires or did you not ever have the factory tires on ever?

I just changed from Goodyear Wrangler HP which were factory fitted on my RAM to Cooper Discovery M+S, and it was like getting a different car. With the Goodyears the car was all over the road, while with the Coopers it sticks like glue even on icy snow.

Did a quick search, tires you have seem to be a good tire. I would check as stated, that your in 4WheelLock, ESP is "Partially Off" I find better traction with ESP pressed once while in 4x4 to NOT totally disengage it, but put it in the limited mode, and throw a few 50lb sand bags or Salt bags in your bed over the wheel wells. Just make sure you have them secure as not to go all the way to the front of back of the bed.

I agree. The tires on my old dodge were really good all terrain. Moved to Oklahoma and experienced ice. I went to Home Depot and bought 400lbs of sand bags (was like $20 or so). Put those over the wheels in the bed and was 1000% better and drivable.

Traded in the factory tires when they were new and received a credit to put toward the Coopers. I really like the Coopers but I don't ever remember driving on a tire that was so bad in the winter.

How does the extra weight in the bed help with the truck wanting to push around corners? I can see it helping the truck hook up for better traction...
