2012 Dodge Ram HEMI, Brand New, 2,000miles, Engine Knock - UPDATE!
Because of the transfer case grinding, the truck is in the shop right now getting the whole front axle assembly replaced. They heard a "BUZZ" in the front axle when testing which is why front axle is getting replaced.
However, the grinding is coming from the transfer case, so I dunno what they are doing. But, we will find out today or tomorrow when I get it back if it's fixed.
Oh my gosh, you guys won't believe this.
Like I suspected, the front axle replacement didn't fix the problem. Service manager called and once again says the grinding is just the nature of the beast. He also says because of the grinding, the gear inside the transfer case is worn down on the one side. He wants me to go and he will explain why it's grinding, and that its normal.
So, according to this dealer, the below video is normal, and at only 4,000 miles wearing on the gears in the transfer case is normal.
Yes folks, backing up, stopping, changing to drive, then engaging 4h will produce a horrible grinding noise and cause wear on the gears, and its perfectly normal.
