Even years back if NEW and under 12,000 miles and good looking hone marks it was told by engineering to NOT hone. No reason to weigh piston stock engine. I'd be real curious how ONE piston smaller then others. I could see ONE cylinder being larger maybe. Werid stuff just to be ONE. Heck at least short block it.

Here's an update.

-Again, piston # 1 clearance measure .0030 thousand of an inch, and the allowable clearance is 0.0023 thousand of an inch (the numbers are exactly right, including thousands of an inch, or hundreds, I dunno, but you get the idea. Clearance on # 1 was too great)
-They say they are ordering new piston for # 1, and new rings, and honing the cylinder.
-New bearings for 1 and 2 are being ordered.
-They are NOT touching the journals.
-They are not re-balancing anything

Here are updated pictures of the journal, and bearing 1 and 2

This is the LOWER bearing on # 2 piston. Piston bearing # 1 looks similar, but not as bad

Too much clearance on number 1. I get that. Very minor difference out of tolerance. Is the difference in the cylinder or the piston. The size of the cylinder is fixing to get every so slighly bigger. Its getting honed. There is nothing there that says this is what was making that noise. Any measurments on the crank or rod journals? One more time. They need to replace at least the short block. I'll admit I personally have never built a engine. I've just been through this same sort of situation before and stood over and worked with techs inspecting,measuring etc. It can be a waste of everybody's time and money. Hope I'm wrong and it works out great.

Yup. However, I can't get them to do that. Engineering at Chrysler Canada continues to push the above repair.

We own a Honda Civic that was returned to us after an oil change (at the Honda dealer where it was purchased) with NO oil in the crankcase. My wife drove it for two days and asked why the oil pressure light kept flashing intermittently.

We demanded a NEW engine and wrote to anyone and everyone that we thought might be able to help, including the president of Honda Canada.

End result? We were given a 7 year warranty on the existing engine and were told that the dealer changed the rod bearings as a precaution. (We left it there while awaiting some kind of settlement).

The engine is still running fine 7 years later.

Do I think you deserve a new engine?

Yes.

But doubt that you are going to be given one.

Not apple to apples. You didn't get your Honda and complain of a knock from almost day one. You didn't have a noise of any sort.

That is true. However, it just gives you an idea of what you can expect when tangling with the manufacturer.

This is all very strange to me. I don't see how a piston slightly under bore would cause knocking. Why do I get the feeling this thing is going to be reassembled and still knock?

This is how I see things going down: Eventually he will get a replacement truck and hate Dodge every day of his life for jerking him off.

Strange....How can 7 of eight pistons differ in size?

Thiers damage all ready done to the engine block as compression in all 8 cylinders has never been = from day one and the crankshaft is toast due to 7 pistons drving the crankshaft out of balance..

Had truck not been looked at, you would have thrown a connacting rod for sure...

My advice is to run the MF out of this engine while the repair is still under warenty casue the repair is not going to last you threw your warenty!!!
