What do they do for the recall? Do they reomve the old one for a new or just put on a "retainer"? I was told the rear end gets a service with this too. Am I wrong? I was going to have it serviced, but if it comes with the recall I'll hold off.

Before I left to come south for my vacation I took my 09 in for service and had them examine the rear pinion nut, they assured me it was fine and not to worry, my unit was a late 08 build and I have had it since new and have not experienced any rear diff problems with it, my service work is done at my selling dealer.

No one knows what is done because no vehicles have been repaired under this recall that I know of, other than the ones that have failed, which is catastrophic to the differential.

I left mine sitting for a couple of months afer getting the recall in December but I need the damn thing so I told the wife if I have an accident and end up dead to sue the hell out of Chrysler. I only hope I don't take someone else with me.

I have had 9 Chrysler vehicles over the last 28 years, including three trucks, 3 vans, and two Chargers and right now I wouldn't buy another one simply because of this issue.

By the way, it covers both 3.55 and 3.92 differentials.

Had my pinion seal go bad at 30k, repaired under warranty and the unit has 65k on it now, just received my letter! Am I concerned. No! Unit is fine and I would imagine they did the repair properly. We will see.

Hi,
I received my notice a couple of days ago. I thought I could visit my dealer to check if it was safe to drive. The service manager told me that Chrysler explicitly stated in their letter to the dealer not to do any thing, not even look at it for safety reasons. The service manager told me he could check it if I paid to have it done. I emailed Chrysler with a complaint about this. Waiting for an answer. This is my third Dakota that I purchased at this dealer. You would think just as a matter of courtesy they would have put it on a lift and at least looked at it. This is also my 10th Chrysler Corp.vehicle, mostly Chryslers.
It feels good to vent a little. Have a great day!

Fact of the matter is these pinion nuts ARE failing and collisions and near misses are occurring all over north America, it's only a matter of time until a fatality occurs because of the manufactures negligence.
It's not very comforting to know that dodge is willing to engage in a game of "Russian roulette" by allowing these trucks to travel up and down our interstates at high speeds, towards each other knowing that failure may be immenent on either one or both of the trucks.
Regarding the new trucks coming off the assembly line, I believe some 2012 models are being included in the recall, not sure about any 2013s but if dodge is continuing to produce and sell these trucks with parts that are known to be defective it's a vey stong indicator of how concerned they are about the issue and how seriously they take motor vehicle safety and the safety of their consumers.
"we told them there was issues and they continued to use the vehicle" type of defense statement.
Watch any lawyer in the US tear that statement up...that would never fly. What about a single young military guy like myself where I don't have another vehicle. Want me to go out of my way to purchase another car, register it, get insurance and continue to pay for my truck? I have to drive to work daily, weekly and monthly. I will continue to drive my truck as I normally would. If I crash due to my drive shaft coming off, then good luck dodge. I need my truck to continue with my daily life. I love this truck it has treated me very well so far. But come on Chrysler, get your parts available...

I received my recall as well, several days ago. I contacted a friend of (Master Tech at a local CDJ, RAM dealership) mine regarding part availability...

Basically summed it up with "Being patient."

I know the recall notification stated there would be a follow up notice when parts are available.

My pinion bearing failed 10,000 miles ago and I already replaced it. $500, no warranty as I'm not the original owner of the truck. Wish i had known this was coming.

The recall applies to all owners, not just the original. If your failure was due to the nut coming loose, then they will reimburse you. My recall letter asked me to forward Chrysler information regarding the new owner if a I sold it. It also asked if the pinion nut had failed and to submit receipts for reimbursements. Go to this website and enter your VIN to see if the recall applies

...crickets...

parts will be available as soon as they figure out what parts they're going to replace.

(well, we needed to bring this back to the top, been over 7 months now)
