Is it a bad idea to downgrade from a 5.7 to a 4.7?

Default Is it a bad idea to downgrade from a 5.7 to a 4.7?

So I currently have a 2014 2wd ram 1500 quad cab with the 5.7, and 8 speed transmission. I am considering trading in my truck for a 2010 4wd Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab with the 4.7 and I believe 5 speed. I’ve previously had a 3rd gen 4.7 and although it was slow It could tow pretty well. I just need advice so I don’t make a dumb decision, but the truck I’m considering has 140,xxx miles and my current has 130,xxx

All the trucks have pro's and con's. You need to figure what works for you. The 4.7 does come with a 545RFE transmission and maybe 9.25 rear axle. Maybe with LSD. I would check with any service records and see how it looks. Good luck. Leonard

How much weight do you tow? The 4.7 is going to have a lower tow rating than the 5.7.

The most I’ve towed with my truck is 7k which is the trailer and a full load

I don't think the 4.7 will do that....... at least, not for very long.

The 5.7 is a far better in almost every way and fuel mileage is about the same between the two. You couldn't give me a truck with the 4.7, they are junk motors in my experience.

I likely wouldn't trade only because the 8 speed is so much smoother and more efficient than the 5 speed.

I wouldn't go to a 4.7L myself. The newer 5.7 hemi 3.92 gears works pretty decent and is decent of fuel mileage. My 2021 5.7 ram gets 12-13 L/100km, my 2016 ram 5.7 ram get 13-14 l/100km. Has more power than the gm 5.3L, so you can tow and haul more
