For future reference, whenever fiberglassing put down your resin straight onto the masking tape with a good amount, then apply your material weather its fleece, mat, sheet. Also, I hope you put down some wax on the masking tape.

this would have been good info YESTERDAY! lol. no i didnt put wax down on the masking tape, but frankly i dont care. it'll never be seen. putting the fleece down first and soaking it pretty thorough has done a great job. all the "how-to" stuff i saw said to put the fleece down first, so thats what i did and it worked just fine. putting resin straight onto the masking tape doesnt make sense. theres no strength in resin alone. as long as the fleece gets soaked thoroughly, its the best way.

Todays Update:

As mentioned before, I laid the fleece and did the first coat of resin. After that dried (about 5 hrs), I started the first layer of fiberglass mat and resin. This stuff is NOT easy to work with. If anyone has any tips or pointers to make it easier, let me know. I think its turning out pretty good for my first time ever touching fiberglass. I used up the entire gallon of resin for the fleece and half the box's first 2 layers. Im gonna pick up another gallon and hopefully that will be enough.

Im also curious how im gonna keep a good seal when i put the 3/4 MDF on top. Insight on that would be great as well. thanks

get some good caulk or that liquid nails stuff...I think you would get a good seal with that?

The wax on the masking tape just makes it easier to pop the mold out of the truck. The masking tape gets very strong and will pull out your carpet with it. and for the resin before the fleece, that is just to keep the fleece from coming up like you said before. It's like a glue that holds down your fiberglass material. What i used to seal is alot of wood glue, and i also got thin sheets of fiberlass material (what they use for surfboards) but a thicker weave and i fiberglassed the mdf top to the frame from the outside. Then after everything dried, i calked the inside as much as i could. But before that, i laid down some sound deadener. It probably doesn't matter but i had extra so why not.

Oh and the resin should not take 5 hours to dry. Mine whole enclosure dried in 15 min. Are you using a catalyst? I had a problem where the resin would dry before i got it inside the enclosure.

the resin didnt take 5 hrs to dry haha. The passenger side was actually dry before i finished the drivers side. I left it alone for 5 hrs while i was doing other stuff. Does the resin stick to wood? howd you get the fiberglass to stick to the wood?

Can you tell by the picture how good it is? I'm kinda having doubts about it. Does it look normal?

The passenger side looks good, just super thin. The most important part is to have the fiberglass completely flat against the surface of the floor/ frame. Make the fiberglass around a 1/4" thick. Yes, resin and fiberglass sticks to anything. I just screwed the mdf lid to the frame, then on the seam along the whole perimeter of the box between the lid and the frame i used just one layer of fiberglass buy i also coated with resin beyond the fiberglass. Also, make sure your fiberglass isn't laying over the top of your frame where the lid is going to sit. It looks like your too late but just grab a exacto blade and hack off the excess. The main thing is to just get the box sealed perfectly, so where ever you have doubts about being sealed just add more fiberglass.
