chrysler merger/ acquistion by GM
I really think that it would be best for Chrysler and GM. I'd really hate to see ether one of them go! I think that GM could use some of Chrysler's inspiring looks. I have always loved GM and Chrysler, and We have had countless Gm's, only a couple of Dodges. Ind they have been great. I would really hate to see an American 100+ year old company go under, or go Japanese. I'm glad that it does't involve ford. I have never liked ford, and my uncle has a few fords and they are all POSes. And other people have had problems. Im' not saying GM is perfect, We had our GMC Jimmy Lemon. As far as Lineup, I think they will just trim it up a bit, but if they changed it, i would be ok with it. I have never cared for Chrysler, SUV's but on the other hand I have always loved GM's. I only like 3 or 4 of GM cars, and love almost oll of Chrysler's. And I like both GM's and Dodge trucks. THe article is talking about a 50/50 merger too. This is just my $0.02.

If a merger would happen, GM and Chrysler would be about the best. Two best companies, and if they would tank, I would have to invest in a Huffy or a Schwinn. Because I would never drive a Ford. Maybe a Toyota again, but never a Ford. These trucks are the ones with the best power and value, plus their trucks are realistic. The SRT-10 is more power than most people need, but it's a great truck, with some good speed. The Silverado SS still has good power, and you can use it to tow the boat to the lake next weekend. Best known trucks, and have good power. We use nothing else out at work.
Guys think about this for a minute, you really expect GM to keep making most of the Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicles? They'd be competing with themselves. Chrysler/GM merger would be the end of Chrysler. At least in cooperation with Nissan Chrysler would be supplying the truck/suv side of it and probably a few cars. Nissan would provide some sorely needed smaller cars that are actually good and both brands would benefit.
Out of seven full size 4x4 pickups I've owned in my life (5 purchased new), I've had one Jeep, two Fords, two GM's and two Dodge's.
The only absolute nightmare vehicle was a Ford, purchased new and the customer service of Ford left such a bad taste in my mouth, I'll never own a Ford again...
I agree with Lance, the one constant is going to be Jeep. Back before the Cerberus deal, every time I read something regarding Chrysler being for sale, EVERYBODY was trying to buy the Jeep division by itself. If they don't completely mismanage it, as I think they are doing done lately, it should always be a profit maker...

Ford does build a tougher truck. But I don't really need a 1/2 ton truck that tows as much as a 3/4 ton truck.
I just hope that if it does happen. the warranties are kept valid. I like all 3 of my new Dodges and hope to keep them forever.
I too would rather see them merge with Nissan.
What exactly does Dodge/Chrysler have thats worth keeping in its current lineup to begin with? Just the following...
Dodge Ram
Challenger
Viper
Chrysler 300/Charger
Minivan
The rest of their vehicles are performing subpar across the board in sales AND in gas mileage. Jeep is an exclusive division, and I'm leaving it out of the equation simply because the only thing people want from it is the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler....the rest would get trashed anyhow....
So here's the kicker.... a GM/Chevy Silverado name, but a Dodge Ram design and Cummins Turbo Diesel under the hood....mated to an Allison Transmission....talk about dream truck...
The harsh reality is that Chrysler right now is in the process of virtually killing off about half its lineup.....so this would actually be the perfect time for a merger. What could Nissan possibly want from Chrysler other then their truck lineup and Jeep? They dont need anything else....because they already have quality vehicles and well known performance vehicles. In fact, their bringing the GT-R stateside....so there goes the Challenger...
Bottom line, GM buying Chrysler would be the best option. People forget that GM is currently trying to get rid of Saab, Hummer, and Buick is just about done as well. I wouldnt be surprised that if this sale actually happened, that GM just didnt close out Buick all together like they did with Oldsmobile.
GM was still alright in 1984-1987, or did you just magically forget the Buick Grand National.....

Ah yes because the last "merger" worked out so well for us. Lots of jobs union and management would be lost. But that will probable happen anyways, due to the fact that Americans are too stupid to figure out that we are outsourcing ourselves.
