Yeah, Ford has done this off and on this year. They worked every other week in June, Down all of July and every other week in August here in town. They also are down for 5 weeks at the Super Duty plant for slow sales and some retooling. The Explorer plant is down for 4 weeks as well. I also heard that GM is doing the same as Dodge for a month.
This is also going to effect all of the suppliers, as well. Times are tough right now.
I bought 3 new Dodges this year (4 counting Dad buying a new 08 Grand Caravan as well). If everyone else steps up and does the same, we can maybe save them and all will be good

This is actually quite commonplace. Although not usually is it company wide. Our last night was Thursday. We were told the company is waiting till Obama gets into office. But that's just the rumor on the floor.

I know SHAPman was being paid a certain amount when he was "out of work". If I remember correctly. I dunno if it's the same this time around.

Why do the big three want money, they have been swallowing thier own possion pills for years with clossing plants and out sourcing to mexico to build it cheaper than cry fowel when the top brains in thier respective company's can't balance a check book.

Ironic that the government of the U.S.A and Canada have to resort to socialist, boarderline coumunism to fund brands that North Americans are not buying.

My next car or truck is not going to be a dodge, Ford or GM, I have owned only big three built products, never a forgin brand until now ( 2000 toyota senia ) bought used.

Jobs will not be lost if the big three go into the tank, thiers still going to to be a need for parts and people to fix the likes of dodge's, Fords, and GMs.

My Ram 2500 was built in Mexico, whats to stop Dodge from taking the quick cash and investing in forgin facteries?

Truth be told, My mexican built Dodge is holding up better than any Gm or Ford Built in Canada...

If the bail out goes threw, My tax dollars can not support a brand I did not want to buy, now that my tax dollars are going to support a brand I did not want to buy, I'm now longer willing to buy a brand that needed my tax dollars..

I agree, buying a forgin made product will not help the big three. I have allways bought or leased new domostic trucks, I have done my part in keeping the ship a float But I can't nor can the majority of people keep the big three going.

Governments don't have money, all they do is realocte weath. I do find it odd the the big three clossed plants in attempts to down size when toyota, honda and nissan opened plants with government help, so thiers a aurgument for payback to the big three, but, giving loans is not going to help.

People have to be working, have to have establashed credit, and have banks that can provide loans prior to a single car or truck sale.

Food, home, rent, are more important than a new car, thiers not enough money for the avegae person to buy a new car, x this by the number of people in North America that can't afford to buy a over aboundance of cars or trucks that are high priced and do not hold thier vaule and here comes government to continue this cycle.

A UAW worker will lose thier job only if they stay employed with the big three, the north amercian auto industry will not die over night, Honda, toyota, hyundia ot tablashie motors will expand into north America.

The big three will not go away if they don't get bail outs, Ford has some cool rides in the UK, Gm has to and the market and demad for performance and mpg exceads the north amercian market, simple soulution, sell UK models here.

Chrysler will do verry well if they do not make more than one version of a 4 door jeep, continue to insipre performnace, asperation and vaule by lowering the price of a challenger, Charger, 300 c

Brink back the K car and I will buy it...

The UK models will not pass US safety or EPA standards. This is why they are not here now. It is very expensive to retrofit them to do so.
Most European cars are diesel because They can get 60+mpg without all of the BS the the EPA here makes them use.
The EPA should ease way up on small cars and trucks 3500 and under since a large Kenworth and such will put out much more emissions than these vehicles yet they are not choked down.
Once this technology is perfected on the huge large truck market, then implement it into the small car world.
A diesel Jetta in Europe will get about 65mpg. Choked down over here, about 45mpg.
