The UAW was very resistant to giving up the Jobs Bank and succumbed to public pressure; otherwise, they weren't going to budge.

The Big 3 were supposed to being making payments to the employee health care trust fund that the UAW agreed to take over but the union agreed to let them delay the contributions.
The latest contract calls for new hires to work at $14/hr, roughly 1/2 of what current workers earn.
Those two items were already addressed in the contract negotiations ~2004/2005.

The UAW president agreed to reopen the current 2007 contract to further negotiations, if necessary.

Although I no longer am affiliated with the UAW I will never, ever buy an import.

Closing thoughts:

My 07 Sebring has absolutely no clear coat or other paint problem, or any others, for that matter.

Consumer Reports is nothing more that an import buyer's rag.

I could care less where my vehicle is built so long as I like the style and it is reliable. This "Buy American" is a crock of crap.

They need to do a retro of the 69 RoadRunner. Not a 4dr like the Charger, but a nice SRT8 6.4L Hemi with manual trans B-Body RoadRunner!! I would buy one if it resembled the one that I used to have.

They might have been discussed in earlier years. The UAW agreed to the concessions in their latest national contract agreement which was ratified in 2007.

I'd be willing to bet that many of the 11.1 million jobless Americans in December felt that way at one time, too.

As far as automobiles, it is a crock 'o' ****. (turn on the record player here, I feel like I'm on repeat) Considering Toyota and Honda cars are made in America by American workers.
For God's sake, my 2009 Corolla I bought was made at a joint-venture plant between Toyota and GM. This same plant (NUMMI in Fremont, California) makes the Corolla, Tacoma, and Pontiac Vibe.
I have absolutly no guilt, not one bit, for buying an American assembled Toyota product.
What about the person who buys a Ram with a HEMI. The HEMI is built in Mexico. And I can guaran-damn-tee they didn't hire American (for clarification, US) workers in Mexico.

Most of the Ram 2500/3500s = Mexico
PT Cruiser = Mexico.
2.4L (turbo and non-turbo) and 5.7/6.1L HEMI = Mexico
Journey = Mexico

I don't have a problem with Canda, but, for the sake, their "foreign."
300/Charger
Pacifica
Grand Caravan/Town & Country (they also assemble some in the US, too, just to clarify because the idiots moan and groan)

Get the idea here?
Basically, someone who owns a Ram 2500 HEMI is more "un-American" I am.
PT Cruiser 2.4L owner? He send jobs outside of America, too!
Journey 2.4L owner? Yea, he funds terrorists!

Just because they slap "Dodge," "Chrysler," or "HEMI" on to a product doesn't make it American. Only true idiots would think it does!

I do agreeto some point. This NAFTA needs to go. We send so much of our work to Mexico, but yet the Mexicans keep invading the USA. We need to bring those jobs back to the USA and try to be competitive!!

I have no beef with the Canadians either. They are a neutral country and trade with them is easy.
The Mexicans are getting all of our manufacturing jobs (what doesn't end up in China with lead paint on it) while these illegal Mexicans come over here and put a heavy burden on our health care system as well as unemployment and welfare systems. And then there are the ones that drive around with no insurance and hit us then run never to be seen again. We need to cut off trading with Mexico and bring those jobs back. Then we can pay Americans a decent wage which will put more money back into the economy and be good for all of us!!

Canada and the US are are two sides to the same coin. We are as close (much to my chagrin at times) as conjoined twins. Anything that benefits Canada, benefits us (industry wise). Conversely, what benefits us, benefits Canada. I saw a program on Discovery about our industrial relationship with Canada and it opened my eyes. We couldn't (yes, even in WW II) have become what we are or stay what we are without our Canuck cousins. It is not only foolish to call Canadian parts/vehicles "foreign", it is uneducated as well.

Ummm... no?
Is it made within the borders of the United States of America? No. Therefore it is "foreign." And is why it is called "trade."
It is uneducated to not realize (understand) what is foreign and what is not.
It doesn't matter if Canada and the US benefit from each other. They are foreign to us, we are foreign to them. Candians are not citizens of the USA, Americans (USA) are not citizens of Canda. This is a black-and-white issue. There is no "grey" area.

I am not saying the trade between Canada and US is unhealty. I support it. But, stuff from Canada is foreign. A 1st grader can understand this.
