First Problem Cannot get out of park. Fixed. Now, Brake light problems!
Hi!
I took my car to be inspected today and all was well. Exited the car, that is when my problems started. First the inspector could not get the car out of park.
This forum saved my bacon a few hours ago with its sticky topic Sticky: Cannot get out of park. (

I was able to get into the side panel and push the button to release the jammed parked gear.
Yay! Then an unexpected problem: Now my brake lights were out! They weren't out before,
and inspector assumed they were out, offered to replaced them. She did to no avail. I left, failing the inspection, inspector thought maybe it was a blown fuse.
I don't know much about fuses, but I replaced the one fuse (#3) that seems to have something to do with the brake lights. Nothing.
I am beginning to wonder that by opening up that panel to help my jammed park gear, I did something to my brake lights.
Any idea what it could be or help, please! I appreciate it so much!

I have this same problem and I called my best friend, whos father is a master mechanic, and his dad said that if you push the brakes and the lights don't come on than its the break switch. Does anyone know how to change this part?
It is under the dash on or near the brake pedal arm. It is usually just threadded in and has a plug on it. Find the switch, jump out the plug and see if the brake lights work, if so, then it is the switch, if not, then you have other issues.
My problem is my break lights wont go off. I pulled the peddle up and they still stay on. I just bought the truck and found a wire that was unplugged and plugged it up and the lights came on and would not go on. if I unplug that wire they go off. Any ideas on how to fix it or what it might be? Also everytime I go over 40 the abs light come on
Sounds like the switch is stuck on. Where exactly is this wire that was unplugged?
You mentioned truck, are you referring to a Caliber?
By the way, welcome to the forum.

I am actually talking about a 95 dodge Dakota. I looked into it more and I think the switch is missing all together there is a spot where it looks like something is supposed to be I'm thinking it is where the switch goes I took a pic but it wont let me upload it on here.

Ok I guess my computer was acting up here is a pic it's the silver thing there is a hole in it and a part on the break peddle that looks like it's supposed to hit something. Do you know if thats where the break light switch is supposed to be?
I'm not sure exactly on the 95 Dakota. You may have better luck here since these guys know that truck better than I do https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen-dakota-66/
