Infinity amp and new head unit?
I have a 96 grand caravan with the infinity sound system. My head unit broke and I got a new aftermarket one, I was wondering if there is a way to wire the stock infinity amp to the new head unit? Right now with everything hooked up only the very front speakers work, none of the speakers with the infinity logo are working, thoughts?
thanks!
thanks!
I have heard of this in the past. It has something to do with a missing wire that is needed to energize the amplifier. It may not be a comparability issue. The amp is just not being turned on.
This is the basic procedure for your predicament but if it doesn't work don't give up you may have to do one more step.
"The “Infinity” radio in the vehicle will be removed, but you are
going to use the rest of the “Infinity” components still in the
vehicle. When you wire the radio, you are going to wire the
radio just as you would for a standard radio that would be in
this vehicle, but you are going to make one minor change to
the new radios ground wire. The new radios ground wire is
going to be connected to the plastic connector that had been
plugged into the rear of the Infinity radio. This connector is a
ground wire to an “Infinity” amplifier which is located away
from the radio. When you connect the new radios ground
wire to this ground wire for the “Infinity” amplifier, the
“Infinity” amplifier will turn on and power the speakers inside
the vehicle. In other words, connecting these 2 ground wires
together allows you to “integrate” into the “Infinity” amplifier,
just as the “Infinity” radio was."

Next step. This guy seems to have had the same problem with his 96 caravan and the prior solution wasn't enough.
"In my net search for info on my problem I also found mention that the grounding wire connected to the lug (along with the ground strap) on the back of the stock radio would have to be wired to connect directly to the new radio's black ground wire to get the Infinity system to work. This was not the case for me. I connected both the strap and mentioned stock black wire to the grounding lug on the new radio just like it was on the old. It was connecting the wire on the black plastic plug that is furthest from the little indexing nub to the blue power antenna wire on the plug adapter set that got my Infinity system working."
I hope this makes more sense to you when you are looking at the plugs. Follow the first directions first.
