Default Had my caravan transmission rebuilt...question

8 days later and 1500.00, I have my van back. transmission needed to be rebuilt. Replaced the torque converter on it and it was still acting like it was the day I brought it in, so they called to say they were replacing the solenoid(sp?). Called me today to say it was ready. I was at work and had to take the elderly lady with me in her car, picked up my mom so she could drive my van home. She never said a word after bringing it back. Drove it home after work..and its not shifting right. Taking off from a dead stop...it should shift out of first between 10-20mph....but its not shifting at all until 30-40mph just out of first! Did that allthe way home. Had my brother drive it..and it work fined for 1/2 mile...then started up with the bad shifting when he would stop and go several times. Dropped him back off at home and driving home it shifted just fine. Any ideas? Guess I need to get it back in to the shop tomorrow morning. Just ticked off that they would let my van go without even test driving it...unless they had a moron test drive it. I'm a woman...so any ideas? Don't want my husband losing a day of pay to deal with my van issues. I know I can handle this...but don't want to look like a moron myself. Thanks for any help!

2002 caravan SE, 4 cylinder, automatic, 2.4L...does that tell you anything? 2.4L is listed on my printout they gave me. Thats all I know off hand...van isn't here..just dropped it back off at the shop. Swung the door open and all the guys there had a deer in the headlights look on their faces. Had to drive it 12 miles @ 20mph cause it wouldn't shift for me getting on the highway and speeding up. That was a fun trip.

Called to check on the van and was told they had to order a governor for it. What is that and is it something that should have been caught before they td me it was ready YESTERDAY?

Governor should have been reconditioned and updated during the rebuild. You have found a shop that just did a quicky overhaul and really didn't 'rebuild' the trans.

So is this something they are gonna try to charge me for? Or should it have been covered with the rebuild? Need to know how to hold my ground on this.

If you just had a transmission rebuilt and something in the transmission isn't performing properly, then they should stand behind their repair (aka warranty). For $1500, they should be kissing your feet too.

I agree, If I overhaul 3speed transmission. The first part that is replace is the governor and both valves. They need to replace the parts and not charge you for the parts. If a person that has a problem with a repair shop, We have here in California B.A.R that a person can go to for help. I don't know who you have?

Maybe they will try to make you pay for the Parts, and charge you no labor. That's as far as i would go. (And if the price sounds Fishy, call a Dealership and ask how much is a Governor) But you paid $1500, they better Get your car done as fast as possible, Call them everyday and check the progress, give them some pressure.

Better Business Bureau is well respected in my State, you can try to file a Complaint there.

the best way to stand ur ground for Freebie is just Bitch at them with the Stupidest thing you can think of, i mean thing that don't even make sense. They'll fix it for free just to shut u up and kick you out of the door.

Luckily hubby has a company truck to get to work on..but I had to ask my mom if I could use her car this week because I had to take off of work all last week waiting for them turning a 2 day job into an 8 day one!
