a very comon problem I've come across on these vans with similar symptoms is the little ground wire at your battery cable. the negative side has a large cable and a small wire attached to the clamp bolt. you wouldn't believe the number of times cleaning or just tightening fixes the problem like yours.

Microprocessors on these vans (in computers/modules) and in general, are sensative to low voltage and power fluctuations due to unstable power sources. That could mean a weak battery or as 22Mopar22 pointed out, loose/corroded connections. When you attempt to start, the demand on your vans electrical system is at it's highest. A power drop due to a weak battery or across a poor connection compounds the draw, leaving little power for your starter and the modules. For lack of a better term, the microprocessors go spastic resulting in the uncommanded displays you're seeing. Clear as mud?

Short cuts are one thing, laziness isn't a short cut.

no not lazy, that's a case of how knowledge, skills, practice and pragmatic problem solving skills reduces the time involved. that's not being lazy. And even a Master tech, doesn't display laziness when it comes to spelling out YOU and YOUR.
