Default Identify transmission

I can't believe how difficult it is to identify the tranny in my van. I have a service manual on CD and it says that I can identify the type of tranny by the tag, but doesn't bother to tell me how to do that. I've searched online but found a whole lot of conflicting information.

The vehicle is a 2005 Grand Caravan (stow and go) with the 3.3 litre engine. The tag on the transmission has the following numbers on it:

TPKTK1335B8033

P04800317AA

My manual says the second number is the part number.

Does anyone know what transmission this is? I'd like to order a rebuild kit since it's shifting poorly and the oil is burnt. I want to order my kit ASAP in the hopes it will be here next week. Any suggestions as to who to order the kit from is appreciated as well.

It's either the 40TE or the 41TE. The 40TE has a lower load rating and is usually used with the 4-cylinder engine. They have the same number of clutch packs but more clutch discs in the 41TE. Ask the place you're buying the kit from, they'll know.

If you pm the last 9 of the vin and mileage, I can tell you what transmission you and even get you the part number for a mopar overhaul package. The mileage is to see if you have any outstanding recalls.

Thanks very much, Master Tech. My local parts supplier had said that they couldn't get a kit for that tranny but now that you've given me a part number, they may be able to. I'll give them a call tomorrow and I might be able to tear things apart by next weekend.

Again, thank you. Much appreciated.

You can get the kit from the dealer, because that part number is the dealer part number. It cost about 125.00 to 150.00 dollars.

Dealer it is.

Are you sure about the part number? It seems as though the 40TE is R0000403AB and the 41TE is R0000413AB.

I stand corrected, sorry. It is R0000413AB for the 41TE. Just goes to show i'm not perfect.

My nearest dealer wanted $289, one a little further away wanted $259 so I bought one off eBay for $149. Of course the dealers didn't have any in stock so I'd have to wait anyway. Since you gave me the part number, one vendor is the same as the next as long as the parts are Mopar. The eBay vendor has good feedback and is in the US so I should be all right.

When it rains, it pours. Now the right front strut on my car is shot. Next!!
