Update;

It is not starting.

I re-checked the 30 and 87 relay. It did crank. Previously I was using a wire that did not go deep enough.

Battery is 12.3V, but still cranked.

Pin 30 has 12V

NO POWER at pin 86

Grounded pin 85 and turned the key; it started.

HOWEVER; After doing the check at pin 85, it has now started a few times on its own, as it nothing was wrong.

Thanks again for your help!!!

Is pin 86 checked while turning the key? It did not have power even when the car repeatedly starts.

Sheesh. How'd I miss this? Is it still starting? Yes, turn the key to start and you should see power at pin 86.

well.....I have thrown in the towel again. The Dealership could not find it either. They installed some LED lights for the next time in does the "no start". They are installed in a way that is not that different from the tests that you recommended. He said that it will work better than just using the multi-meter....at this point, I am willing to try it.

As of now it is running.

Thanks for following the thread, your help is appreciated!

Got a hunch a new IPM is in your future. Internal circuit boards often fail.

"They installed some LED lights for the next time in does the "no start" Well hey, that's a new one and from a dealership to boot. Great idea. They should have incorporated that into the IPM on every van. Starting problems are the single most common complaint.

Just curious. Are the LEDs installed at the IPM or elsewhere?

Did you give the dealership this information? When you posted this I expected it to ultimately lead to the fix, but it seems to have been lost in the shuffle. If you didn't tell the dealer, I don't think they would be aware of it, unless a sharp tech noticed the 20A fuse where a 10A normally would be. At the very least, I'd think all of the + wires and connectors downstream from that fuse should be checked - primarily the yellow ones going through the ignition switch and IPM/FCM.

Thanks again for your help.

The LED wires go into the starter relay.

I will check the yellows. Now it is a waiting game.

Update; The LED lights are always on, and one light bulb that comes on when it starts for two seconds and goes off when van is started.

The van had a no start, and all three lights behaved as if it had started. There was no change in the lights.

Update; I found something, just not sure what it means. I opened the fuse panel and found a previous repair for two wires going into the starter relay.

This problem is over 90 days old. Is this the first time for a visual inspection?
