New Challenger?
who care what it weighs if it has the perfomance, dodge's estimated perfomance acording to car and driver is 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and 1/4 mile in 13.0 seconds, and dodge always lowballs perfomance numbers, the 300/magnum/charger with the 5.7 acording to dodge does 0-60 in 6.3 seconds, but in actuality they normaly do it in 5.8-6.1, so I would expect 0-60 in low 4's and the 1/4 mile in the high 12's
If they put the 6.1 in it and the pistol grip & 6 speed, I don't care the size or weight. Heck, they have to use as much of their existing platform to make it work economically. Let's not lose sight of the larger picture here. If they can't get enthusiasm on this site (and yes, you can bet some brand mgrs watch this site), where will they find it???
I also love the apparent "butterfly" opennings for the hood scoop. Hell, that's an improvement over the original!!
Can't wait to see it at the Cleveland Autoshow

Weight has a profound effect on performance in every possible way, everything from 0-60 and 1/4 mile times to top speed, handling and braking. Lots of people love to rag on the old musclecars and how poorly they handled and there is no reason to duplicate the musclecars that exactly. If this Challenger weighs in at 4,100 pounds then it will weigh more than most every musclecar and 500 pounds more than the original Challengers. A modern day musclecar should be far more well rounded and balanced.
Dodge has always been one to underrate their power and performance, but Dumler is the exact opposite, just look at the new Viper SRT-10 coupe and it's stats versus it's performance. Now how is it possible that the new Viper, which is supose to have 60 horsepower more than the previous GTS model as well as being the same weight or lighter, lower, wider and better in every way, is actually slower than the GTS. An article in one of the major magazines compared the new Viper, the new Z06 and the Ford GT. The GT had almost the advertised crank horsepower at the wheels and the Viper had by far the biggest lose in power from the advertised rating to the wheels which is why the Viper got burned badly by the competition. This just goes to show the difference between Dodge and Dumler, the Dodge Viper with 450 horsepower stock ran 11.97 in the 1/4 mile and the Dumler Viper with 510 horsepower stock ran 12.2 in the 1/4 mile. The Dodge Viper GTS looked like nothing else and is great looking. The Dumler Viper SRT-10 coupe looks great, but it looks alot like the Corvette now.

yeah, weight can effect the handling, but they can make a heavy car handle just fine, I mean look at the SRT-8 magnum, at almost 4300 pounds it out handles a 3450 pound mustang GT on the skidpad and is only about 1mph behind it on on slalom, heck it's really not even that far behind the Z06 vette on the slalom and skidpad.
Weight is a factor, but not the be all and end all of everything. If the weight is engineered well, it won't negatively effect handling at all.
If they build this car, just like they are showing in the pics, I WILL BUY ONE. Period, end of story. If they diviate very much from the concept shown however, that would be a big dissapointment for me.

Sent my e-mail tuesday, I think, and got a response yesterday from a Renee at The Dodge Information Center thanking me for my feedback on the Challenger concept and support of Chrysler brands. Most interesting was the comment she made that since this vehicle is still in the concept stage that she could not provide any pricing or production data. She also said that my interest in the Challenger HAD BEEN DOCUMENTED and then went on to point out that the Viper, Prowler and PT Cruiser had also been introduced from concepts. Since we are all on here discussing the Challenger anyway, why not just e-mail Dodge about it. The more positive responses they get can only help bring this car to production more quickly! I can feel the Pistol Grip in the palm of my hand right now!
