Challenger Price.
42 for the 6.1 hemi or 5.7? i figured the 5.7 would be around 35. i also hear theyre making a 4.7 for the challenger possibly. i think thats a good idea. have like 2 v6 options (or at least 1) like they do with the charger a 4.7 for ppl that want v8 but dont wamt/need a hemi the 5.7 for ppl that want hemi power but still decent gas mileage and the 6.1 for ppl that dont care about anything but power and speed. i also hope they come out with a new srt engine like the 6.4 (394 cid) that was at the auto show or a 6.6 (400 cid?) or 6.9 (426 cid) that was mentioned in brand news and concepts forum a few weeks ago. i think i even heard something about a 7.2 which would be a 440 cubic inch hemi i believe. also you said auto stick? do they make an auto for the 6.1?
Unless they give the 4.7L a huge output boost, it would be a lost cause. When they had the Chrysler "Howler" concept it had a higher output version of the 4.7L (but not the actual HO version) with a 6-speed and it failed to be anyfaster than the 3.5L with the 42RLE four-speed version. For as inefficient as the 42RLE is, that is pathetic. They would be better off to offer either the 3.5L or 4.0L instead of the 4.7L. Plus, the 4.7L is supposively more expensive to build than the HEMI.
As for the never ending debate question, in that Ask Dr. Z contest I heard supposively that the three cars there were giving away were worth around $30,000 and a 5.7L Challenger was one of them. I think the Challenger will be priced similarly to the Charger.

i didnt think of that but its true about the 4.7/5.7 gas mileage. ive got a 4.7 in my truck and everybody i know with a hemi gets better mileage than me. i think its because i have a small v8 in a big truck and it has to work a lot harder to do the same thing the hemi could do easily?
does anyone know anything about the possibility of a new srt engine? i think the 6.4 is the most likely candidate but i would like to see a 6.6 or 6.9. i think the 7.2 might prove to be a little impractical although i would love to see the kinds of numbers it would produce. im thinking around 600 hp?

I think we will be lucky to get 505hp let alone 600hp. If they offer 600hp, it will threaten the Viper's sales. I'm not going to get my hopes up.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the 4.7L only has the 45RFE while the HEMI has the 545RFE. This could explain why the 4.7L gets worse mileage. Johndcjr1989, do the people you know have '06 and newer models. If so, those have MDS. That could easily explain it also.

no i dont really know anyone with an 06 a guy at school has an 03 hemi and gets like 18 and my manager at work has an 04 and gets 24 (overhead computer but when i calculated mine by hand it was only a few tenths off so im guessing that 24 is pretty close to accurate.)
about the transmission question...i called the dealer i bought it from a few months ago before doing my first oil change since ive owned it and asked about the transmission (nothing to do with the oil change just got me to looking at my original window sticker and my manual and made me wonder) but yeah i forgot what they said. i should be making a phone call up there tomorrow after school to see if they have any 07s in and ill ask then.
i thought about the potential loss of viper sales if they went with an engine that produced too high of numbers but then again the viper is about to be upgraded to like 700 horses with a maclaren tuned engine ive heard. also the prices wouldnt be near the same. say 45k for the 600 hp challenger (i know theyre not making one just an example) and 86k for the 700 hp viper (which will problly go up in price when they get that newly tuned engine in it anyways) so im thinking 88-90k for the viper vs. 45k for the challenger. so yes it would be stealing some sales from the viper but i think that most of the ppl that had the money and were planning on buying a viper would still go with a viper because for many ppl buying cars of that caliber price isnt an issue and also the viper is a very rare super car it will be alot easier to spot one of those going down the road than a challenger and some ppl who have money like to show it by buying things that no one else has or things that make them look like powerful important ppl.

Hmm...A better indicator on where a particular engine actually does get better fuel mileage is if they are driven on the same routes with similar driving characteristics. The guy at your school might just be a little easier on the accelerator. Your manager might have just reset his computer while driving on the highway. Either your manager did that, or he drives similarily to me.
The new Viper output is still in the realm of rumors. The rumors range from 615-700. I'm sorry but I still think that 600 sounds like a pipe dream. I doubt they will do that.

yes youre right about the way its driven. the guy at my school dogs the hell out of it. last year he wrecked so many times by going to fast or doing stupid stuff and he eventually totaled it and is now driving a little toyota with primer spots all over it lol. my manager is lighter on the gas than i am but still not THAT light on it. also i have 3.92 gears and she has the 3.55s so that does have a little to do with it.
and yes the viper output is most likely going to be a little lower than 700. i know we probably wont get a 600 hp engine and it is just a dream but i think we atleast deserve a 550 hp engine. when gm was questioned about the 6.1 hemi they said they werent worried about it...implying of course that the 2009 camaro will have something bigger than the 6.1. with the new shelby mustang gt 500 out thats getting 500 hp weve got to get on the ball and blow em away like the hemi did back in 03 when we had 85+ horses on everybody.
