thanks for the info on the cam sensor. i wasnt sure if they were the same or not yet. the wheel the sensor reads looked ot be the same so i wasnt too worried. the crank sensor i swapped over from the 06 motor as the 13 didnt have one when i got it... not sure why but the guy kept 3 or 4 sensors from the motor when he sold it to me..

now im waiting for the reluctor wheel to come in from TX. i am also going to take the crank to a machine shop and have it polished and put some new bearings in the bottom end while i have it apart.

Sounds like a plan (: I'll tell my customer about the phaser lockout. I wasn't aware one existed.

I should have his 2008 crank sensor there soon, so we'll see how it goes. Seems both cars have quite a bit in common, except his is an SRT downgraded to a 5.7L

Why is he downgrading to a 5.7 from his SRT setup? Seems *** backwards to me lol. But yes comp cams sells a phaser limiter and a phaser lockout. The limiter can only be used on a car capable of controlling the vvt. My 06 of course cannot. That's the one sensor that doesn't plug in. So I'm gonna a get the lockout so it stays still.

And the casting on the block changed so you can't use the 06 timing setup.

Yeah they came out with it when the eagle engines first came out because no one had any experience with hotter cams using the VVT, so they just made bigger cams that fit but locked out the VVT to tune them. Not really an issue nowadays (for the VVT cars) with the selection available, but still a good use for an engine that can't be run with it.

Why in gods name would someone downgrade from an SRT engine to a stock 5.7 of any sort?

Well, giving my guy the bad news today. He has the 2008 tone wheel still...DOH!

Diagnosis PLUS riddle solving is pricey. So is owning a Franken-Car.

So what ya need is the 14 tone wheel. He's got a 14 car? Only issue is that you gotta pull the crank out to change it.

He needs an 08 tone wheel you mean. For his 08 PCM and config. Yeah, but he has to pull the engine again...lol

He'd be better off selling the 14 engine and getting the right one IMO.

Yep...this is one of those situations where it pays to do a HELL of a lot of research before charging in lol. Every major modification I've made to either my Ram, Charger or Magnum was preceded by it.

I think the 06-08 reluctor wheel on the crank are the same. 32 tooth count wheels.

But yes the research before hand is the way to go. I should have done more as well but I think it'll run. I'm picking up my crank today. I had it polished for new rod, crank, and thrust bearings. So this weekend I'll be putting it together and dropping it in. Still waiting on the cam phaser lockout as well.

03-08, opens up your options. Same basic engine other than incidentals and MDS those years.

Default Motor is in

hey sorry for the long delay! finally got the motor together and into the car yesterday. there is good news and bad news. good news is that it runs. barely but runs. thats the bad news. im pretty a couple of the lifters are bad, as it is ticking something fierce. pretty sure i got a dead cylinder or two. when i pulled the crank to change the reluctor wheel i didnt pull the heads off. and now im wishing i had to check them.... oh well now i gotta pull the heads off. but i plan to leave the motor in the car for this.

let me know what yall think. im gonna pull the heads in a couple days.
