Dodge ChargerThe Dodge Charger. The car that made its competitors shiver in the 60's is reborn in 2006 into a sleek sedan that can still send the competition home wimpering, the Dodge Charger.
I know there is no horsepower benefit. They werent much more expensive, and I wanted the red coil packs. Im considering the aluminum valve covers as well, and they also have no performance benefit. Sometimes you just want things to look nice.
Spray paint.
The aluminum covers will probably seal better......

Dress up is fine, but almost $600 for coil packs a certain color with no other benefit and at least $400 for aluminum valve covers with no other benefit makes for getting bent over for $1000+ lol. Mopar has traditionally always been more expensive than their gm & ford counterparts but aftermarket stuff (even just dress-up) has gotten ridiculous. I might've sprung for the VC's but painted the coil packs. I didn't bother with any of that because of price and I like the look of the coil covers:
Yeah, but you have the 6.4. They came with the coil covers, and I like that look. The 5.7 had that plastic cover that I just hated. I removed it but doing so leaves the cheap plastic valve covers exposed. Either way, I agree its expensive for no performance benefit. Technically so are my wheels. You can argue the weight or strength makes a difference or the wider rear tires, but not at the "street" level. Its all about looks. Do you want a car that looks like the other 5 million red chargers Dodge made? Or do you want something a little different?
I piled all the parts I have received on the table and took some pictures. On the table you see the headers, mufflers, cats, mid pipes, clamps, MSD coils. You can also see the engine on the stand. I have taped it up a little to keep dust out, but Im also going to paint it hemi orange. In the boxes we have the lug nuts (small box on the table) and the radiator support, the condensot/dryer unit, and the radiator.
On the way are an X-pipe, the wheels, and the supercharger. With the supercharger I ordered the BOV pipe so I didnt have to chase down someone to weld aluminum for me, and the matching overflow tank. I got the supercharger in black, and the other parts are also black to match.
I still need to buy the fuel injectors, a 3 bar MAP sensor, a fuel pump, and an intercooler. And a few other items.
I might get the valve covers soon, but Im waiting on the other parts to come in, and I have to see how much the tires are going to cost me. Im also looking at wrapping the headers. They are stainless, but they are raw. Still havent made a cam choice. I want to make sure I dont ruin the car. I want it to run well, but I dont want it to be a pain to drive. Im going to have to really research this. Im also looking into HPtuners, and a dedicated laptop for it. Im on the fence about adding gauges. I dont think I NEED to see how much boost Im making all the time. There is nothing I can do about it anyway. But If I do, I might also add a wideband, and put both gauges in a pillar pod. I dont really know yet.
On a side note, I also got an EFI system for Isaacs truck. Ill post all of that in his build thread. Im going to do his truck first, so I can drive it while my car is down. Im hoping to start on my car early spring 24.
I went back outside a few minutes ago, and my wheels showed up. I just got off the phone with the tires place, and ordered my tires. I should be sporting new wheels and tires next saturday. I will post a picture then.

Tell me you don't know what you're looking at without actually telling me lol......look at the first engine again. Bottom one is a 392 yes....top one is an 06 5.7 (hence why the covers say 'Mopar Performance').
Yep. That top one looks a lot like a 6.4 until you look at it. I didnt know they even had those covers for them. Ive only ever seen them on the 6.4.
They use the same mounts, so you can get custom ones. Steve White motors sells a variety of done up ones but they honestly want to much for them; trying to recoup the labor: https://www.stevewhiteparts.com/c-engine-covers-2
I got the wheels and tires put on today. Im not a fan of the rear tires, because the tread is so far down the sidewall, but the wheels I like more and more. I guess the tires are all season tires, but this car sucks in the snow, and wont be going anywhere when we get some, so I guess I dont need that. The wheels are Ferrada FR2s, 20 X 9 (15mm offset) front, and 20 X 10.5 (20mm offset) in the rear. The tires are 245/45/r20s in the front, and 305/35/r20s in the rear. The rear tires did rub on the way home on the outside, but I had some weight in the back, and my daughter was riding too. Ill drive it a few days and keep an ear out. I might have to bump up the rear height a little.
Most likely isn't a height concern, they're probably just a hair too wide. 305's aren't a great fit in the back of 1st gen LX's even with the proper wheels. I had to downsize to 295's. See if this is where it is rubbing:
Mine doesnt hit on the inside. I jacked it up today and looked. Its the outside lip. It has cut into the outer edge of the tire. I guess the 305s are a bit big. Ill get 295s next time, but this is what I have now, so I have to deal with it. It only scrapes on my side, because Im in the drivers seat. With extra weight, like a passenger, it would probably be both sides. I rolled the fender lip a little, but I dont think it was enough. I might have to get taller rear springs. I forget who I got the coil overs from, but the rear springs were always really short. I put them as high as I felt comfortable, but the rear spring adjuster is maxed out, and the front springs have plenty to go. I could adjust this thing down probably another 2" if I wanted. Ill keep an eye on it, and maybe roll that fender lip again.
