Why you shouldnt run platinum plugs in the neon!
im sure everyone has different expirences with different spark plugs but let me tell yall about mine. ive got a 2004 dodge neon sxt 2.0L with 64,367 miles on it. i went and changes my spark plugs with the bosch platinum 2 and i had a horrible drive with those. my engine would hesitate on take off, knock real bad at cretian rpm,and when i would go up a steep incline it would crawland it also ate alot of gas. i was getting about 317 to 329 miles before the "dummy light" would come on. now im lucky if i can go between 277 to 284 before it comes on. to make a long story short, i went throughdifferent brands of spark plugs; autolite. ngk, andbosch. i even went and used the new bosch fusion plugs.. which are a pieceof crap btw... i finally went back with thechampionplugs and the problem went away instantly and 2gas fill ups later ive noticed ive gone back tothe fuel milage i was getting before. im sure with certianengine modsitsok to use other plugs, but in my opinion champion seems to be the best, and until i get proven wrong , im sticking byit
I dont know guys....I ran bosch platinums in my 05 automatic and 04 manual sxt...seemed fine to me....nothing wrong or out of the ordinary....I have heard not to buy the +2's or the +4's because they arc sometimes ...or some of their spark gets dissapated somewhere else...idk...anyway thats why i run the plus....it just has the one regular gapped tip...fine for me....but just because yall brought this up...im going to switch to NGK's and see if i notice a difference...I will post my results...
k guys....right now... i want to know what the best plug for my car would be....put brandnames aside....whats the best proven plug for the best performance on my 2004 sxt.
Well D, I would say what ever plug that doesn't missfire and keeps you moving should work. Till you start running alternitive fuels anyway, nitromethane, jet fuel, ect. Plugs don't make power. Fuel and air(oxygen)do.The fuels i mentioned are harder to get ignited so you need a more powerful spark and plugs that dont burn up.
Well according to these guys...my bosch platinums arent any good...so i was wondering what would be the best plug for me...not the most powerful...lets say the most healthy plug for my car...
Champs will work. Double plats work as well (single-plats are the ones that kill you I believe). There's Iridums which are extremely expensive as well.
But the lowly Champion is 1.49 for four at Autozone.

Are your plugs fouling of missing? Come on, there just plugs! Stay away from the+2 and+4 platinum plugs cause the spark gets dispersed. Just like a lightning bolt the spark can eighther go one way and be strong and bright, or try to hit multiple points and just fizzle out.

Double Platinum plugs look like regular plugs but have a platinum button on the Center Electrode and the Ground Strap to CONCENTRATE firing voltage and allow a lower arcover voltage and more current flow.
The multiple ground strap plugs like Bosch +2 or +4 plugs have on a platinum center electrode and multiple groud paths. This multiple paths actually also lowers the arc over voltage requirements and provide 2 or 4 points in which to wear out that slows down gap errosion. Now ina conventional distibutor or COP ignition this is nota problem but for a waste spark type DIS the plug firing backwards has a tendancy to erode the pltainum of the center electrode causing rapid gap errosion leading to misfires. Now they do solve this with Double Platinum plugs such as Ford used for years. This gives LONG life and durabilty.
So either stick to standard style plugs, double platinum plugs or iridium and you will be fine. No Bosch.
So if silver conducts electricity the best....then copper....then iridium....seems like copper plugs would cost more than iridiums....why are iridium plugs so expensive when the dont conduct electricity as well??? whats better for the neon....iridium or copper or silver....im going to try those copper v-power ngk's i think next time...
