When I said double and quadruple i meant the +2s' and +4s'. Silver, Iridium, and Platinum are rare precious metals. There is plenty of copper being mined. Really, whats the next step, Gold spark plugs. Anything the companys can do to stay rich, huh. I've also seen what happens when the little platinum tips on the doubles do to an engine when they come loose from the ground electrode and it's not pretty. Funny thing is that most of your precious metal high dollar plugs have copper guts, hmm. I am no longer going to follow all the hype about this plug being better than that plug. Unless you have engine or electrical problems any plug will last a long time. My NGK-r copperVs' have been in my 88 158k mile Camry for more than 3 yrs. and havn't missed a lick. I got a 3.5hp lawnmower also with a standard champion plug that has never missed. Not to mention the chainsaw i have has had the same plug in it for 30yrs. and still runs fine. See where i'm going here?

Almost every plug made is a COPPER CORE plug but the platinum & iridium plugs are tipped. Now the benefit is the compressed (Focused point) magnetics where hte spark fires from with minimal inherent shadowing of the F/A mix from the spark. Minimized fouling is also a benefit. Why a good portion of modern cars come stock with them. Manufacturers are not going to put them in if they don't work. Cause they will save the nickel which is hundreds of thousands of dollars per instance of something cheaper.

Anyhow. Hope this helps.

ok i am hearing all about how platinum is bad i am currently running the bosch +4 platinum in mine and have been the last 10k miles. and i have been hearing all about how good the NGK are and i pulled one of my spark plugs out at my last oil change about 2 weeks ago and they were pretty whiteish to light grey. and i decided it was time to change them soon.

now i went to the NGK website

http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/part_fi...uv/results.asp

and there is 5 different kinds i was wondering if there was a huge difference or if i could just use whatever ones are cheaper [sm=Awwww.gif]at my local auto parts store.

From the good book........

IGNITION COIL
DESCRIPTION

The coil pack consists of 2 coils molded together.
The coil pack is mounted on the valve cover (Fig. 11).
OPERATION
WARNING: THE DIRECT IGNITION SYSTEM GENERATES
APPROXIMATELY 40,000 VOLTS. PERSONAL
INJURY COULD RESULT FROM CONTACT WITH
THIS SYSTEM.

High tension leads route to each cylinder from the
coil. The coil fires two spark plugs every power
stroke. One plug is the cylinder under compression,
the other cylinder fires on the exhaust stroke. Coil
number one fires cylinders 1 and 4. Coil number two
fires cylinders 2 and 3. The PCM determines which
of the coils to charge and fire at the correct time.
The Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay provides battery
voltage to the ignition coil. The PCM provides a
ground contact (circuit) for energizing the coil. When
the PCM breaks the contact, the energy in the coil
primary transfers to the secondary causing the
spark. The PCM will de-energize the ASD relay if it
does not receive the crankshaft position sensor and
camshaft position sensor inputs. Refer to Auto Shutdown
(ASD) Relay—PCM Output, in this section for
relay operation.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Well now let us see here...

Fires one coil or the other every power stoke the other plug attached to that coil fires on the exhaust stroke...
Welcome to Waste Spark, as it is not really used it is wasted during the exhaust stroke.

While the coil does have the 3 leads to operate the coil that is just the primary side which is electrically isolated from the secondary side which is where the magic happens.

How it fires is, the coil relative motion of the magnetic field collapsing when the primary side charging circuit is broken. The coil terminals 1 and 4 are at opposite ends of one of the secondary coils. When the magnetic field collapses the secondary voltage and polarity is set as it is always charged in the same polarity. This means that one terminal is positive and one is negative. The spark then fires from terminal 1 and a seeks terminal 4. Thus one fires normally center electrode to ground strap. The other then fires from ground strap to center electrode back through the spark plug lead to the terminal.

Coils towers 1 and 2 are + and 3 and 4 are -.
1 fires to 4
2 fires to 3

The Coils electrically should measure out at
Primary side Steel Towers .45 - .65 Ohms
Primary side Brass Towers .35 - .65 Ohms
Secondary side Steel Towers 11,500 to 13,500 Ohms
Secondary side Brass Towers 10,900 to 14,700 Ohms

This is why no single platinum plugs for which no less than Bosch and Autolite have admitted and stated are incompatible with DIS waste spark systems.

Coil On plug or other variations which you have one coil per cylinder then you have all coil firing on the plugs the same way and while are a form of Distributorless Ignition System, they are not included in the above caveat because they fire just like old stuff.

One last thing/thought to add.....

We actually read electricity backwards.l. The negative side actually flows to the positive side. This is because it is actually the electrons that flow. Electrons are negative which means they are attracted to the Positive side which means negative to positive flow.......

The time has come to change my spark plugs. I have been using BOSH Platinum for last few years. Tried to buy NGK - they don't sell Neon size in Canadian Tire. Ended up buying Champion - the car runs well.
